Cavatini II

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2012
I had a dinner party last night. I was running a bit late, so I just did Directions #1 and #2, as I didn't have time to put the cheese and bake it. The sauce was delicious!!! To the sauce, I added broccoli, mild Italian sausage (would've preferred "hot"), another 32 oz of pre-made sauce (so 64 total...just 32 was too thick), 2 more cloves of garlic, a lot of Italian seasoning, tablespoon of cumin, a teaspoon of red pepper flakes, and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne. Also added salt and sugar. It was really great, my guests had seconds, and one of my friends told me that if I made it for her, she would pay me. haha This morning I was able to finish the recipe so I could have it for lunch. I used cottage cheese instead of ricotta ($1 versus $8...its ridic). It was delicious! I would advise is to cover the pan with aluminum foil before putting it in the oven so the cheese on top doesn't get burnt. I'm going to make this over and over again.

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2012
So good and extremely easy to make (followed the recipe exactly). We dipped them in ketchup as we ate them. They keep pretty well too: next morning, we heated them up in the microwave and they were still really good. Definitely make these again.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2012
Crisp edges and chewy middles as promised. Dummy proof and incredibly delicious. Perfect. But...I like my cookies a little less chocolate-y, so I only put 1 and 1/4 cup of chocochips. And I bake them for 12 mins, otherwise they won't twist off the cookie sheet easily.

Romano Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2012
At the end of this month, we're having a dinner party/game night and did a test meal with this recipe (we want a less fussy meal so we can also enjoy the party). Love this! We weren't sure that the microwave would do the trick, never cooked meat like this before. Delightfully surprised! It was very juicy and all the way cooked through. And even though I tweaked the recipe a bit (see below), it was incredibly delicious. Totally going to make this again. We didn't have tarragon or basil, so we used Italian seasoning. We also didn't have swiss so we used cheddar. We used a glass baking dish in the microwave, no toothpicks (just put the end of the rolls down) and had no problems. Keeps really well for the next day. Reheat in microwave a little at a time versus overheating, (the cheese will melt out too much and be inedible).

Pumpkin Cookies V

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
Every Friday I volunteer with a group of kids, and we cook and bake. This recipe, although delicious and the kids absolutely LOVED them, is not kid-friendly to make. Creaming that first part of the batter is a bit difficult and we still had gobs of shortening not fully mixed in, but they still turned out very well, and once the flour was in, everything was fine. The icing was a little strong for my taste, but not bad. I would definitely make these again with the same batter, but with a different icing. (When you make these cookies, realize that it's for 18 people, not just 18 cookies. We made around 50 cookies.)

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
I made this with my kids. It was really easy to make and they loved them, especially knowing the marshmallow was in it. One quick note: measuring out 5 quarts of popcorn is kind of difficult. Definitely use three regular size bags of popcorn or you'll have too much sauce keeping them together...and instead of being lightly sweet, it's over powering and gets a cheesy taste.

Challah I

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
This bread is very delicious and easy to make. This is my first time making bread and the directions were easy to follow even though I'm sure I didn't do everything exactly. I gave it a four because of the directions for the bread: I would suggest covering the challah for the last 20 minutes to minimize browning, and to take the challah out about 5 minutes early. I also let the unmolded dough rise for an extra hour (2.5 hours total). Also, grease the baking sheet very generously - I couldn't get it off even though I had greased it. Wonderful tasty bread!

Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2010
As someone who was raised on bottled pasta sauce, I have to say - I am not going back! This sauce was incredible. When I first tried a spoonful of it, I was hooked. My only issue with it is that it's very soupy and not very saucy. Next time I will add cornstarch to thicken it up. Definitely will make it again.

Greek Penne and Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2010
My boyfriend and I made this today for dinner. We followed the recipe as it went. I should've followed other advice - use less pasta, etc. After we finished, we thought it was bland and definitely needed something. We added a little cup of garlic sauce from Papa John's, many shakes of Frank's Red Hot Sauce, and more feta (we used about a full cup of feta). Then it was much better. We're definitely going to make this again, but with our revisions.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2012
The flavor and creaminess were really good and tasty, but this was quite tame spice-wise, and that's the only reason 1 star is missing - next time we make it, we'll add more Red Hot and a few shakes of cayenne for oomph.

Cowboy Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
I think the idea behind this recipe is better than the actual recipe. The title is much more fancy than what it delivers. I didn't taste any spice...it was pretty much like mashed potatoes with corn and cheese in it. I would say, try this recipe, but be ready to doctor it up.

Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

Everyone else liked them, but I thought they were just "ok." The peanut flavor was lost.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies are cookies. I don't think these were spectacular, but good enough. We baked three batches at different times, and closer-to-burnt tasted the best.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2012
For me, it wasn't spicy enough nor did it have enough pumpkin flavor. A better recipe is Pumpkin Cookies V. Only reason I didn't use that one is that I didn't have any shortening.

Curried Chicken Tea Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2009
I was really excited to make this recipe because I love everything curry, but I was really disappointed at how it turned out. I spent $26 on the items because I didn't have any of them, then I made the dish and it was bland. Extremely bland. The only thing I could taste were the cranberries. And because I don't throw anything away, I saved the left overs (this recipe makes a lot of mix) until the next day. Sometimes foods are better after sitting for a while...I took it out of the fridge and tried some but found out that it had already spoiled. In 1 day! Pretty much $26 gone.
