My family knew how to throw a Christmas party. There were intricately decorated sugar cookies, cocktail weenies in secret sauce, dips, and sandwiches cut into festive shapes with cookie cutters. I still love to treat friends to finger foods with visual appeal.

By the time I was 8 I knew how to decorate sugar cookies like a pro.
The first cake I ever made was a Tunnel of Fudge Bundt cake from scratch. I made it without a mixer.

My first brownies were tragic. I used canola oil, not knowing it did not have enough fat. I also forgot to grease the pan.
