Aspiring Cook
About this Cook
Well, I love to cook, however life has it's strange twists we all have to deal with. Mine came this year when I discovered that gluten, dairy, and soy were no longer allowed to be eaten. So my recipe box was edited and I am searching for new recipes. Life is a beautiful ride!
My favorite things to cook
Used to be breads and cakes. Now it's....ah....I'll get back to that later ;-)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chili and garlic bread on Christmas Eve.
My cooking triumphs
Anytime the dish comes out done and not burned. Exotic cakes, cream puffs, beef tenderloin with roasted red pepper sauce, baked lemon garlic butter salmon, pinto beans, fish tacos. Now I'm hungry!
My cooking tragedies
The worst in recent history (3 years ago)was when I was trying to impress someone with cooking biscuits, gravy, sausage and fried potatoes. The biscuits turned out flatter than jar lids, sausage and potatoes were burned and the gravy tasted like it had charcoal in it. My friend ate it and acted like it was delicious. I threw mine in the trash. We both laughed histerically and we're still great friends to this day.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way
This turned out very well. Moist and flavorful. In the future, I'd shorten cooking time and use less water/broth, but this recipe still turned out with raves at our Thanksgiving table.

Chicken Enchiladas V
This is a great recipe and I've made it many times with varations. The can of chopped chilis is drained and the liquid is added to the sour cream and soup mixture. Montery jack cheese was used instead of cheddar and the whole dish was topped with 12-16 oz. picante sauce.

The Best Bean and Ham Soup
Takes a while to make, however it is really tasty. The beans hold together better than expected. I added 2 tablespoons of minced garlic after the first tasting--we're just garlic lovers. Great healthy fare to feed a hungry crowd.
