I cook to please my family and my three kiddos are the best food critics. They all have their favorites but I like to try new things with them. Thankful to have traveled the world from my military career, I find my cooking is influenced by the foods I've loved from the places I've lived.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking everything! I like to make dishes that are as aestheticly pleasing as they are delicious! I also experiment to make dishes and desserts as low cal, low fat and low sodium as possible without ruining texture and flavor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
baking an assortment of cookies for Christmas; eating sauerkraut and pork on New Years; bunny shaped bread and peanutbutter/coconut eggs for Easter; homemade hamburgers, potato salad and fruit salad for picnics. Cooking enough to ensure there are plenty of leftovers for everyone to take with them.
My cooking triumphs
I won a chile cook-off once amongst my co-workers. It was the only time I ever entered a cooking contest. I was very surprised.
My cooking tragedies
Jumbalaya in a slow cooker...the rice was a horrible texture. I'vealso tried making muffins out of a smoothie, wheat flour, eggs and baking powder. They were chewy.
