Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2002
THIS is a terrific basic recipe!! Nothing to stop you from adding your favorite things - although the TASTE is GREAT just like it is. I used chuck because it's not as dry as a bottom round. I had a tomato so I chopped it up & added it. I saw where someone had added an envelope of beef gravy - great idea too!!! Thank goodness there's people out there REALLY KNOW HOW TO COOK!! Oh, and don't bother to brown the beef the way some recipes state - it only makes the beef dry. Thanks for this recipe.

Applesauce Bread I

Use 1/2 cup of oil - still VERY moist & delicious. Easy, easy to put together. I made one loaf & used the rest to make muffins. Muffins took less time to bake (about 30 min.) The loaf took just about 80 min. (I loaded the pan up) NICE-TASTY Thanks. Could even put a frosting on it, yum-m-m!

Fettuccine Alfredo V

I liked this. I added some mushrooms. I also added some grated Romano cheese, instead of ALL Regiano Parmesean. It gives it some kick, otherwise these recipes become bland. I also added a bit of chicken stock and a bit more heavy cream.

Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2002
I liked it...but if you use a left over french-type bread, you will definitely need another 1 1/2 cups of milk & another egg as I did, because it's a bit dry. Also, try about 1 to 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch in the sauce portion of this recipe because otherwise it's just runny. I also added about 1/2 teaspoon of bourbon to this sauce - or you could add lemon juice - something to break up the sweetness.

Dried Beef Cheese Ball

This family must have been denied salt as children. Every ingredient has salt. You have to drink a lot of liquor not to notice this baby's real taste. Yuck!

Carnation® Swedish Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2001
Good basic recipe. You don't need the instant dry milk (if you don't usually use it). I did NOT use oil in my sauce, I used an equal amount of butter-richer taste I thought. It's a nice sauce, but I kicked it up a bit with (believe this) a teaspoon of cider vinegar! If you could use fresh dill all the better! Didn't make the meatballs as big as they suggested - thought the meatballs were suppose to be smaller (??) but then I used them as an appetizer instead of a dinner.

Baked Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2001
Good basic recipe, but you need to: (1) BAKE it only for 30 minutes [instead of an hour] OR you MUST USE another cup of milk or half-in-half, because it baked up too dry. (2) I'd also put in 1/4 cup more sugar only because I like it tad sweeter and 3)I'd butter the baking dish, and maybe add a Tablespoon of butter to this recipe. Good, solid comfort food :=) !!!

Jewish Coffee Cake

I used brown sugar in the topping - a bit more than what was called for. I baked it in an 8 x 8 x 2 pan for 35 min. EASY, TASTY!! Nice to eat something homemade & not take forever to make.

TERRIFIC, EASY recipe. Basic and very TASTY!!!! I used red pepper instead of green bell because it agrees with me more. But everything else A #1. Thanks for having this on the web. I even put tuna in it the second day - and had a whole new dish!!!

Dry Rub for Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2001
FANTASTICO!!!! Great method. Modified it a little for our taste. I used two tsp. of cayenne pepper and gasped for air. So-o-oo I reduced it to a 1/4 tsp. But a nice way to get a beautiful rib taste. I also remove the silver skin on back of my ribs - helps get the dry rub in. :)

Texas Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2001
FANTASTIC. Now I started out with two teaspoons of cayenne and found that was t-too h-h-h-hot. I also used my own barbecue sauce - But the dry rub method is GREAT. YES, it does take a bit to prepare, but what a difference!! I also peel the silver skin off the back of my ribs before I marinate them. TERRIFIC process. Try it - without too much cayenne pepper :) Thanks Texas!

Black Russian Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2001
Leave out the sugar and this isn't a bad recipe. It was a bit sloppy and it didn't rise as much as I thought it should. Is the liquid measures accurate or should they have been reduced a bit? Otherwise a nice rich cake. Needs no frosting!
