Burnt Sugar Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2002
This was a disaster. I followed the directions EXACTLY and when I added the 1/4 cup boiling water, the sugar immediately clumped together, became rock hard and stuck to the pan. Don't know the trick to this but I wouldn't try it again.

Elvis Presley Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2002
I made this cake for my husband's birthday dinner because he can't tolerate anything chocolate in the evening. It's not a bad cake, but it's VERY sweet...a diabetic coma in one piece! Even my kids thought so. The next time I make this, I'm going to add the nuts in with the pinapple/sugar mixture and frost the cake with a fluffy white icing or use less sugar and more juice in the pineapple/sugar mixture to see if I can tone it down.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
Great chili recipe though a little too spicy for young children. Also, this says eight servings, but I could get at least 12 out of the pot. I'll scale it to serve 4 next time or plan to freeze half.

D's Famous Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
Fantastic!!! I made this for gifts and kept a jar for my family as well! Everyone loved it and we're picky salsa folks. The only alteration I made was to add some jalapeno pepper (to taste). The cilantro was definitely what made all the difference! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
This is a great recipe...do follow the tips to reduce eggs to six and milk to one cup. Also, I put it in the oven for 10 minutes while I made the topping for it. After 10 minutes, I pulled it out of the oven, poured the topping mixture over it and returned it to the oven for 30 minutes. Voila! It was fabulous!!!

Christmas Turtle Candies

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
Ouch...plan to see your dentist if you try to bite into these! I followed the recipe precisely and the caramel came out so hard that it was crunchy. The only way these could be eaten was to allow the caramel to melt in your mouth. Thank goodness I didn't make these for a gift!

Gooey Butter Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
This recipe isn't great at all! It reminded me of an old recipe I used to make, so I tried it. It was dry and crumbly. You could try it with an 11x7 pan, but there's another recipe on this site for a Chess Cake that turned out much better. The amount of butter is the same, but that recipe uses half of the butter in the topping and more powdered sugar so it's more moist.

Cracker Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2001
A very tasty and easy recipe. My kids helped me make this for Christmas gifts for friends and had a great time. They were amazed that candy could be made using saltine crackers.

Peach Cobbler Dump Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2001
I've made this several times and it's a good, easy dessert. To cut down on the "sweetness", use peaches in very light syrup instead of heavy syrup.
