Ham 'N' Cheese Quiche

Easy, tasty recipe. I had to make lunch for 20 teenagers, some of whom said they didn't like quiche, but miraculously, there were few leftovers! I had comments like "that was the best quiche I ever ate!" It took about 10 minutes longer to cook than the recipe indicated, but I think that may have been the oven I was using.

Slow Cooker Garlic Mashed Potatoes

These turned out really well, aside from the colour, which was greyish. Even though they didn't look that appetizing, they tasted great and were gobbled up at my potluck party last night. I would definitely make these again to have ready for a family dinner on a busy weekday, but might think twice about serving to guests only because of the presentation.

Thai Ground Chicken Basil

I haven't eaten this in a restaurant so have nothing to compare it to, but I thought it was very tasty - and quick to prepare, too! I wasn't sure where to buy Thai chiles in my area, so I substituted 3 fresh, small red hot chili peppers. My daughter found this amount too hot, but my husband and I would have liked it hotter, so if you use this substitution, you will have to experiment.

Banana Crumb Muffins

I made these muffins to take to a staff workshop and a number of my co-workers told me they were the best muffins they had ever eaten! They are really tasty - moist with lots of banana flavour. The only change I made was to add a teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips. My tip is be sure not to fill the muffin cups too full - about 2/3 full is plenty because they rise very nicely (I have been making low fat, high fibre muffins lately that tend not to rise very much so I was used to filling the cups right to the top).

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

This recipe was very tasty! I followed the advice of other users and cooked the chicken breast right in the soup and shredded it just before serving. I also made my own Enchilada Sauce with the Red Enchilada Sauce recipe on this site.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

My whole family enjoyed this dish. The meat was tender and very tasty. I don't know where I would buy Hawaiian sea salt here in Manitoba so I just used coarse salt. The first time I tried it, I didn't like the cooking odor while I was trying to sleep, so the second time I cooked it for one day, put it in the fridge overnight, removed the fat, and then cooked for another day. I was pleased with this method because I was able to remove a lot of fat and the meat was till tender and tasty.

Chicken Eugene

We really didn't like this recipe much at all. The flavours were strange and the dried beef remained hard and chewy. I thought it might soften and blend in with the sauce a bit like the bacon did. I won't be making this again.

Kitty Kat Bars

Yum Yum - not sure if these really taste like Kit Kats, but who cares - they're delicious. The suggestion by other reviewers to have the first layer of crackers in the pan and the rest "at the ready" is a good one, although I didn't find the graham wafer mixture hardened that quickly. My whole family enjoyed these bars.

Orange Cream Cookie Mix

My family loved these cookies! What a great change from the usual chocolate chip, etc. I wasn't able to find vanilla chips in my area, so I used chopped up white chocolate discs that you use for making candies. I found the cookies took only 8 minutes to bake - possibly because I substituted the white chocolate candy for vanilla chips.

Round Steak Sauerbraten

My whole family enjoyed this meal. The meat was very tender and the gravy was tasty. Some reviewers comment they thought it was bland, but I didn't find it bland at all and I prefer dishes with lots of flavour. I prepared the recipe in my electric fry pan and actually cooked it for about 2 hours. I also had on hand a Lipton's Sidekicks package of Instant Mashed Potatoes with Beef Gravy mix, so I used the packet of gravy mix in the meat recipe and prepared the mashed potatoes as the side dish.

Anniversary Chicken I

I was a bit disappointed when I first served this recipe - the topping was tasty but the chicken just tasted like plain chicken, although my guests said they really enjoyed it. However, the next day the leftovers were really yummy as the flavours had blended through. Next time I will marinate the chicken in the ranch dressing and teriyaki sauce overnight. Otherwise, the cheese, bacon and green onion topping was excellent and the overall taste of an unusual combination of ingredients was delicious!

Cranberry Muffins

These muffins were really tasty. I didn't have any dried cranberries, so I used 3/4 cup of cranberry sauce. The muffins were moist and delicious. I will definitely make this recipe again.
