Mashed potatoes at Mom's house
About this Cook
In the last few years I've been trying to broaden my cooking horizons and try new things (dragging my husband along on the journey!). I've found that though I enjoy cooking, I am really more of a baker at heart and I prefer the quick and easy when it comes to making dinner!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and to put together fun food themed gift baskets - most recently whole grain bread and potato soup mix for the winter.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father likes his food plain and simple so I grew up as an Iowan meat and potatoes girl before moving to Colorado, the land of green chile. The real fun came at Christmas time when my mom pulled out all of the old family cookie and bread recipes and went into a baking frenzy.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made a loaf of honest to goodness bread I was so proud of myself. Since then I have expanded to try lots of differnt things, but have somehow become known in my family for my truffles.
My cooking tragedies
I once mixed up the oil and water amounts when making a box cake mix for my sister's birthday cake when I was a teenager. It was moist, that's for sure.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake
I tried the mixture of carrots, coconut, walnuts, pineaple and raisins and it was fantastic on its own. (I did try another reviewer's tip and cooked the raisins in OJ first). That would make a yummy cold salad!

Blueberry Coffee Cake III
Fabulous! I've done it as a coffee cake and also as muffins. Rave reviews both ways. I've also tried it with chopped up strawberries instead of blueberries. My boss came back and asked for a second batch just for him!
