Gluten-Free Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2015
The flavor was really good; however, mine came out flat and looked more like cookies. I'm not sure why they spread like they did and I have to agree with another reviewer, they were crumbly, very crumbly. Regardless of the cookie-like appearance and crumbliness we served them in a bowl topped with strawberries and whipped cream and they were gone in a flash. This was a nice treat and I will make it again despite their shape.

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
I made this recipe for brunch; we really enjoyed it. I used fresh spinach and mushrooms instead and sautéed them before throwing it in the mix; I assume this caused extra moisture, since I didn't the spinach/mushroom mixture after sautéing it and it took longer for the quiche to cook. I will make it with fresh ingredients again but will skip the sauté part. The taste was good.

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
Awesome!! Totally awesome! I confess I was concerned because the mix was so watery when I added the boiling water but I continued to follow the instructions; glad I did because it turned out great! I used almond milk instead of regular milk with great results. This cake was so good it didn't last long in our house. I will be making this again.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2013
Just made this recipe and it was PERFECT! This was a quick and easy recipe to satisfy a brownie craving; my tastebuds loved it even thought my waist may not... I just have to figure out a way to make it with agave instead of sugar.

Warm Dijon Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 26, 2013
I made this for a family get-together and it was a big hit! Easy to make and ready in no-time. I followed the recipe pretty closely but added a little extra paprika and cayenne pepper. I really liked it and will be making it again.

Chef John's Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
Delicious, although mine turned out more like chalupas. We really enjoyed these and will make them again. I'm only giving the recipe 4 stars because I altered it by using vegan butter instead of shortening. Worked great though!

Real Hummus

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
Great recipe. I've tried other recipes for hummus and always ended up throwing most of it away, not with this one. Really simple and good. I used the 3 tbsp on tahini like the author recommended in her update.

Best Carrot Cake Ever

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
Definitely NOT the best carrot cake ever. I already have a great carrot cake recipe but wanted to try this one expecting it to be so much better than my usual one, how disappointing! I followed the recipe exactly and came out with a cake that was basically burnt in the outside and undercooked on the inside. I had to cover it in foil and stick in the oven much longer for it to cook thoroughly. This is a very dense, heavy cake, and the flavor was just ok, nothing extraordinary. I will not be making this recipe again; it was a waste of ingredients and time. Still trying to figure out if I missed anything... Very disappointing!

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
Yummy!!!! Absolutely delicious! I love lentils and was on the mood for soup so I decided to make this one. I didn't have carrots or celery so I went with what I had on hand: one zuchinni, two small potatoes and celery flakes. Everything else was the same. I threw everything together in the slow cooker. This is one good soup!

Pecan Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
This was incredibly good. I have tried several versions of pond cake and this is the only one that has turned out well. I did some modifications to accommodate my hubby's lactose intolerance and my unwillingness to go to the grocery store for ingredients. I substituted the sour cream for a tofutti "sour cream" and the butter for a lactose free butter, I cut the salt in half because the butter was salted and I used almonds instead ofpecans since I had them on hand. It turned out nicely and we will be making this again and again. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Only because I had to modify ithe recipe so technically I didn't follow it exactly. I gotta say though, if this recipe is so good with "tofutti", its gotta be even better with the real thing!

Churros

Reviewed: May 6, 2011
First time ever making churros and follow the recipe exactly; they turned out perfectly!!! These were so easy to make, the flavor was so good and the texture was perfect. Some reviewers wrote they are crunchy inside and out, not the case here, mine turned out night and soft in the inside. The shape of mine was a little off, mainly at the lack of nice pastry bag tips, but that didn't matter, they were gone in a few minutes. Doubling the recipe next time. Thanks for the recipe!

Pollo Fajitas

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2010
I'm only giving it 4 stars because I am a vegetarian and can't say I tasted them; however, I made this recipe for my husband who eats meat and his first reaction was "these are gooooooood!". My opinon: They are very easy to make it and apparently quite tasty. The recipe works with steak fajitas as well, once again my husband loves this one.

Veronica's Apple Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
The only reason I will give it only 4 stars is because I didn't get the "oh, this is awesome!" that I was expecting; however, every single one of those pancakes were gone (which doesn't happen with other recipes I've tried). I served these with a cinnamon syrup recipe I found on this site. I really enjoyed it and will be making it again.

Cinnamon Syrup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
Good and easy to make. It was the perfect match for the apple-cinnamon pancakes I was making. My husband usually passes on the homemade syrups I've tried but he loved this one.
