Mission: Chocolate Cake

For some reason or another, at the beginning of this past weekend, I got it into my head that I needed to make the perfect chocolate cake. I'm not sure how I got the idea, perhaps my wife whispered it into my ear while I was sleeping. She loves chocolate cake, so I wouldn't put it past her. I quickly logged online and combed AR for the right receipe.

It had been sometime before I made chocolate cake. I lived for 3 years without a function oven and had all but given up on baking. Moving into a new space has re kindled my love for baked goods and having a working oven has helped as well. I finally found some recipes that might work so I set out to the market to get some much need ingredients.

This cake came out alright, I did not like the chocolate flavor that it had though, it was to subtle for my taste. It did not have the right consistency either, to dense and packed... overall, this cake failed my challenge... or perhaps, I failed it... either way I moved on.

Cake # 2 - Fudge Cake

This cake had the flavor that I was looking for... I think I might have messed up some of the mixing procedures because it did not have the right consistency. It also was a bit dry... and packed. Again, I might have failed this cake too...

Cake # 3 - Hersheys "Perfectly Choclate" Chocolate Cake

This was the winner, straight from the Hershey's website... it was fluffy, moist, chocolately... and the frosting made a great partner. So I guess my quest was complete... on to the next!

Hersheys is my all time favorite cake! Doesn't get much better than that! Now you've done it... guess what I'll be baking today?

The Hershey Chocolate cake is probably the best chocolate cake of all time. It is to make ad always come out perfect. \I have another choc. cake that has been a favorite of my family for years. I got from a flour package at least 45 years ago. The only difference is that it has a coconut filling in the middle. Tastes just like a mounds bar. If you eve are interested, I would be happy to share it with you.

I also prefer the Hershey's recipe. I use buttermilk instead of milk and I use coffee instead of water. Super moist.
