About this Cook
I teach special ed, enjoy crocheting (and the other hobbies I've listed). I first learned to boil water at the age of 10 and never looked back. My dad and family recipes that have been passed down are my biggest cooking influences. So that would make my core dishes come from the Irish and German culture.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake all the time but I also like to use anything with chicken in it because you can do so much.
My favorite family cooking traditions
baking cookies on Christmas Eve for Santa and chili on Sunday during football season.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I read a recipe from a recipe book and cooked it for my dad, since he was sick. He loved it and raved about how good it was.
My cooking tragedies
Several first degree burns.

Garden Pasta Salad
I add black olives, cubed provolone and pepperoni to this recipe. I also only use 1 bottle of dressing. I have another bottle on hand, as sometimes the salad can get dry when sitting out at a bbq or the leftovers the next day(the rare times that there is any leftover that is).

Golden Mushroom Pork & Apples
I'm giving the original recipe 3 stars b/c while it was decent and easy to make, it really needed some more flavor. Before putting the chops into the slow cooker, I season them with salt, black pepper and dried rosemary(after rinsing them and patting them dry). I use white wine instead of water. If I don't have any white wine on hand I use chicken stock or lemon juice. I like the white wine flavor the best however. I've also noticed that the flavor changes slightly when you leave the peels on the apples vs. taking them off. The onion also makes a difference. I use a yellow onion b/c I like that flavor the best.

Spaghetti Sauce IV
This recipie was not what I was expecting. It tasted closer to a marinara sauce, yet bland. I think it needs something in it to bring out more of a tomato taste. I do love marinara sauce, but not with my lasagna or spaghetti sauce. However, it wasn't the watery or oily nightmare that some reviewers stated. I followed as written and it thickened up just fine. I also found that it thickened a little more when I let it sit overnight in the fridge and reheated the next day. So all and all the consistency was perfect for my taste.
