Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
I made this exactly as written except that I increased the sauce due to personal preference. This was excellent! Thanks Dianne!

Don Struble's Puerto Rican Pork Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
I read the reviews and regardless if this is authentic or not, it was very good and we enjoyed it. I Googled their flag and it had similarities to ours and so keeping with the theme of things, I used a star cookie cutter on some bread along with some food coloring, buttered it, and stuck it under the broiler for fun pork sandwiches. I followed this recipe to a T except that I did it in my slow cooker. This was very simple, good, full of flavor and a nice change to our everyday pork roast. Thanks!

General Tsao's Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
I didn't follow this recipe exactly but I am still giving it a 5. I did not use the ginger (we hate the flavor) or the MSG (I refuse to buy that) but that is just personal preference. The chicken was to die for and I am already thinking up other ways that I can use this. I did it in my Fry Daddy and I couldn't ask for more perfect results. The sauce was great but the chicken was good enough to stand on its own without any sauce. Again, I am so impressed with the chicken preperation/results that it is difficult for me to rate the overall recipe. This was excellent and we both really enjoyed it. I plan on playing around with the chicken preparation with other meats and I look forward to my experiments!

Sexy Shrimp Scampi

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2010
Simple and yet a classic. I gave them a generous sprinkle of paprika but that was my only addition. YUM!

Tex-Mex Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
As written this didn't work for me. The texture was odd and then if I stopped stirring for more than a few seconds the cream cheese would separate. I wouldn't exactly say bland but it lacked something so I added a little bit of Velveeta and that did the trick. As written I have to give it a 3. Adding Velveeta bumped it to a 4.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I never could find the Bibb or Butter lettuce so I had to use Iceberg. The only other change is that I halved the ginger because a little goes a long way for us. I made some using ground beef and some using ground pork and they were both very good. Thanks for the fun recipe!

Stir-Fried Mushrooms with Baby Corn

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I really liked this and wouldn't change a thing next time. I did use can baby corn because that is all I have available here.

Carne en su Jugo (Steak, Bacon & Bean Soup)

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
SB sent a shout out to me on the Buzz recommending this and am I ever glad she did. This was EXCELLENT and right up my alley. The only change I made is that I used red onion because it was already chopped up and needing used. I also had an extra tomato that needed used so I threw it on top as well. Valentinas was my hot sauce of choice. Again, these flavor combinations are very much my style but I would have never known how to incorporate them all into a soup on my own. Thank you so much for thinking of me and for sharing SB!

Ken's Stuffed Shells

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
I had never made stuffed shells of any kind before and these were really good. I followed the recipe exaclty except for the nutmeg and only left it out because hubby doesn't like the flavor. There were plenty of leftovers seeing how it is just the two of us and they reheated nicely as well. Thanks for sharing another great recipe Ken!

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
Very rich but excellent. I found out that I am not a big fan of standing over the heat for 20 minutes while making roux but it was worth it in the end. The only thing I did differently is that I used shrimp stock in place of the fish. Thanks for the great recipe!

Brandy Flamed Peppercorn Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
Excellent flavor and extremely tender. My only complaint is that my sauce turned out looking nothing like the ones pictured but the flavor was still outstanding. I will cut down on the heavy cream next go around to see if this improves the color and texture of the sauce. I left out the "optional" sugar and the lemon pepper due to personal preference but other than that I followed this recipe to a T. This was a great recipe!

Oaxacan Tacos

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
These were excellent. I used the top sirloin that the recipe called for and I cooked it in my wok and it was super tender. The flavor combo in these are perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. This recipe will be used often in my home. Thank you!

Pork Medallions with Balsamic Vinegar and Capers

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
I saved this recipe quite some time ago but every time I came across it I didn't feel the time was right. Well, the time came when I decided it was as good of time as any and the only reget I have is that I didn't make it sooner. We truly enjoyed this. The combination of the vinegar and capers completely compliments the pork. I added extra capers due to personal tastes but this is the only change I made. Thank you Marianne for making my special night all the more meaningful with this fabulous meal!

Chili Cheese Fries

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Great afternoon snack that held us over until dinner time. The only change I made was chili WITH beans because we love the beans. The cheese did however seem to get lost in the chili so I just added some shredded to the top along with some green onions and MMM MMM good!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2010
WOW! I followed this recipe exactly and I really wanted to give it a 5 but I simply cannot. I am blaming it on the brand of wing sauce I used I guess. We like spicy but this was just too much for us. It has all the things we like but we couldn't get past the heat and honestly that is all we could taste. I used Louisana brand wing sauce because that is all my store had at the time. I'm thinking Frank's or Hooters would be more tolerable? I'll likely make again because we love the buffalo flavor but I'll definitely try a different brand of sauce next time or else cut back on the heat.

Masala Chai

This is one where you really kind of have to add more of what spice you like to shine through. Great basic and one that can be tweaked to your liking.

Chicken Sandwiches with Zang

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
LOVED it! The only thing I did differently was to slice the chicken after the grilling (no way affected the taste) and then I used misc. peppers from the end of the garden because they were going bad AND DH doesn't care for bell pepper too much. I also used shredded cheese that I already had instead of the slices (again no way affected the taste) and this was a very nice change in my every day routine. Thanks!

Linda's Hearty Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
What a great recipe and from a cook I admire dearly. The only thing I did differently was with the carrots. Mine were large so I only used three and then instead of dicing I left them in slices but only because I am not that great with a knife and never take the chance of losing a fingertip. Thank you Baking Nana for a wonderful recipe!

Potato Garlic Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
Another 5 star recipe from a cook I have come to admire. I followed the recipe exactly and even though the blended soups are typically not my favorite due to texture, I didn't mind one bit with this one. The garlic adds a richness that compliments the potatoes perfectly. Thank you Ken for another fabulous recipe!

Steak Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
I am thrilled to be the first review. This soup was EXCELLENT! I love soup but have always struggled with veggie/tomato/beef based ones. They just never turn out like I remember mom making. Not until this one that is. I made exactly as written and was very pleased. This would be good with some green beans or peas for added nutrition and color too. Very good full bodied flavor and this will be my go to veggie soup. Thank you so much for sharing!
