Hello AR peeps! I know I haven't been around much lately but I am still here and have never stopped cooking up a storm. Perfect soup weather is nearing and I plan on not being such a stranger in the upcoming months. For now, I'll start with a short blog.  There are two things I love in life.… MORE

Tis the season was in the air and I’ll admit that I felt like a big ole Scrooge this year. I always tell people that Christmas is my favorite holiday but in all honesty, I always seem to get in a big funk this time of year. I have very fond memories as a child and even when times were tough I… MORE

As some of you already know from my previous blogs, I started my own tradition when it comes to the holiday feasts. So, what theme did I choose this year you ask? Italian. I am actually surprised I haven't done it sooner. After all, my trip to Italy back in 2002 inspired me like no other… MORE

And, this time it is in the form of my all time favorite. SOUP! In my last blog I mentioned DH finding an old box of my cookbooks out in the garage but what I didn't mention is that I pulled out another goodie too which was a soup cookbook (my very first cookbook purchase...go figure)… MORE

...okay so technically it was a Wok but now that I got your attention, how about cooking up a stir-fry tonight? So, I hadn't lived in NW Arkansas long before I discovered that Antique Malls/Flea Markets were big in these parts. I am sure they existed in Colorado Springs where I moved here from… MORE

Well, what can I say? Valentines Day is commercialized yes but I cannot hate it entirely because to me it symbolizes much more than roses and chocolate. You see, some 19 years ago while living in a small mountain town just west of Colorado Springs there was this boy I really liked and I… MORE

Okay, so some of you probably consider me "redneck" I am sure but I am not as redneck as you think. Hubby may like to hunt but there is a lot of wild game I have never tried. Duck being one of them. I'll back up here and admit that I HAVE tried duck before but it was a gift from… MORE

Hello my dear friends! Nothing exciting to report over the holiday season but I thought I would share my meal with you just the same. As some of you know, I have recently started my own holiday traditions and while I chose a Mexican theme for Thanksgiving, Asian was my theme of choice for… MORE

Without going into too much detail, let me just start by saying that my mom has always hosted the Thanksgiving dinner for the four of us (parents, hubby, and I) since moving here to Arkansas and even though she would prefer to handle it all herself, I always sneak in a side dish or two that… MORE

About Me
Hello, my name is Nicole. I am 40 years old, have been married to my wonderful high school sweetheart for 15 years now. We don't have (or ever wanted) any children but we do live on 8 acres and have 3 dogs, a cat, 11 hens, 1 rooster, and a ton of deer that come down and feed that think they are part of the family too. I have to be honest and say that I do not LOVE cooking but I do cook every night and love browsing this site for new and interesting things. I have an acre pond and absolutely love fishing and that is where I spend most of my time in the summer. There is nothing like sipping on a cold Corona while waiting for a nice 8 pound catfish to grab your bait. When not fishing I'm typically in my garden, flowerbeds, or riding my dirtbike.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, Mexican, Italian, Asian, and grilling
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't really have any so I have started my own. Allrecipes has taught me to "think outside the box". I love trying new and unusual things that I would have never dared or even thought of before discovering this place.
My cooking triumphs
When I got married, I honestly had 0% experinece in the kitchen. My mom was the kind that wanted the whole kitchen to herself so that nobody was in her way and I was only allowed in there to grab the plates, utensils, etc. to set the table. I really never thought about what I was going to cook until we got back from our honeymoon and then I was like, "uh oh!". Amazingly enough it all came pretty natural and I am happy to say that I have never ruined a meal forcing us to order take-out.
My cooking tragedies
GRAVY! I cannot make a decent gravy for the life of me so I've just given up altogether.
