General Tsao's Chicken II

I used only the sauce part of the recipe. That said, it was really good. I had to use lemon zest in place of orange (that's all I had), but it was still great. I added a little bit of cornstarch/water to make the sauce go further and to dilute the strength. I prefer it that way.

Semlor (Semla)

I wanted to like this recipe. I lived in Sweden for a few years and love semlor, but this isn't how I remember them. I don't know how much of that was my own fault. The bun tasted right, but was too dense and chewy. The filling was too diluted by the bread. The mandel massa flavor was lost. I added almond extract and sugar to try to restore some of the flavor, but it still tasted too much like soggy bread. I will compare this with other semlor recipes and try again with some tweaks. It didn't quite scratch my semlor itch.

Carrot Salad Delight

Simple and delicious. I julianed the carrots and frenched the apples. For dressing, I used 1 cup mayo, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 Tablespoons lemon juice. Nice and tangy, but probably didn't need the sugar.

Onion Gravy for British Bangers and Mash

The wine overpowered the other flavors. I would half it next time. It would probably be better with beef broth if you have it available. If you prefer thick gravy (American style), you will need to quadruple the flour.

Speedy Homemade Salsa

Good salsa. I would not use more than 1/2 tsp of cumin. This was too much. I doubled the cilantro. I will make it again.

English Toffee

Dissolve the sugar first. Some said half the butter, some said all the butter. I compromised with 3/4. It turned out delicious, but still very buttery. I drained quite a bit of butter off that just didn't mix in . Instead of mixing the nuts in, I sprinkled them on top of the chocolate. I did part walnut, part almond and part no nuts. They were all delicious.
