my boyfriend loves a "thick" soup, and I have known as long as I've been cooking for him that Chicken and Dumplings is the best way to satisfy him. I have used several base recipes from this website, but tonight we had this one, and I have to say that out of all of them I've tried this yielded the most (enough to satisfy four with GIGANTIC appetites) The Cream of chicken soup gave it an amazing flavor! I did make several changes that I think were key to my own success, although I KNOW that the recipie on it's own deserves the 4 1/2 stars. First of all, instead of water I used Chicken broth. This gave it a much more dynamic flavor. Also, I used an entire chicken (cut in 8 pieces and then shredded later) and cooked it for the regular time. I used far more vegetables than the recipe called for. I cooked it very slow (probably about 2 1/2 hours on a lower heat) and I added the carrots and potatoes in the first stage of the cooking. I also used the dumpling recipe found in the very first review and they were phenomenal! Every time I make chicken and dumplings from now on I'm going to use this recipie!!
