Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2014
Very good, doesn't overpower the steak at all. Added some beer and a squirt of Italian dressing.

I also took the suggestion to add Baileys and it was great.

Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2012
Didn't have cream of celery so used cream of chicken. I did have to add a good bit of salt and pepper, and cooked my "meat" (vegetarian) in some onions and garlic for more flavor. Used frozen veggies too. With a little added spice this was a 5-star, but as is it was a bit too bland so I went with 4.

Tofu with Tomatoes and Balsamic Vinegar

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
This was pretty tasty. It definitely needs to be served over something. Pasta or couscous.

Best Ever Chocolate Cutout Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
Mine were soft and tasty. Very chocolatey. I did add the extra egg and vanilla like others said. Baked at 325 for 7 minutes on parchment paper so they were soft.

Maple Cajun Mahi Mahi

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
Not sure I was into the sweet of the syrup with the spice of the cajun. I like maple syrup, and I like cajun, but the two together didn't mesh well. Which is strange because I usually like sweet and spicy. I may have put too much syrup in so I will try again with less.

Chocolate Chess Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
Made this and also the regular Chess Pie on this site. This one was my fav of the two, because the chocolate off sets the super sweetness of Chess pie. It is still very rich and very sweet, but not knock-you-out with a sugar rush like the original was.

Chess Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
Whooooholy this is SWEET! Like, a headache in each slice. Not sure if that is how it is supposed to taste, but am going to cut way back on the sugar next time. I agree with the other reviewers to up the cooking time.

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2012
These were ok. They were a little more crumbly/cakey and not as chewy as I was looking for. I did use regular vanilla instead of Mexican.

Pear Pie I

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2012
I made 2 of these when we had some friends and family over, and everyone gave rave reviews, even though the fam is pretty critical. I made one with a lattice top crust, and one with a crumble top. Preferred the lattice top; crumble was a little too sweet. Doubled the spices and am glad I did. I used the brown sugar as so many suggested, but I thought it made things a little sticky and gooey and not as light as the white probably would have been.

Chicken Cucumber Boats

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2012
Different, but good. A smallish or thin cucumber would probably work best, because otherwise there was so much cucumber that it overwhelmed the chicken salad. Was nice and refreshing for dinner when we didn't want to cook on a 100 degree day.

Mexican Potato Nachos

We really liked this. It was VERY filling with the beans, and the guac on top. We made with vegetarian meat and never missed the beef.

Feta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2012
Made this with vegetarian "chicken" and it turned out fantastic! I didn't have sour cream so I just used more mayo. I served mine over pasta and made it into a sort of pasta/chicken salad. It was great--these flavors all blend really well.

A little too sweet for me and sort of dry. But really cute and a nice cinnamony flavor.

Spaghetti Squash with Pine Nuts, Sage, and Romano

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2012
Don't know if this is a fair rating of the original recipe because I butchered it up based on what ingredients I had on hand..but it tasted lovely! Used walnuts and slivered almonds instead of pine nuts. Sauteed the walnuts with some garlic in the butter (used 1/2 olive oil). Also added sundried tomatoes. Feta instead of Romano.

Death by Chocolate

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2012
Used a Duncan Hines Decadent Triple Chocolate cake mix---it had fudge in the mix and really added an extra rich touch!!! Also used Kahlua instead of coffee and real whipped cream instead of cool whip. Tasted great with the toffee but even better for the candy bar was Reeses NutRageous.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Even better than the other pumpkin pancakes I was making! Subbed dry pancake mix for the dry ingredients and added applesauce in place of 1/2 the oil.
