About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! The first thing I remember making on my own was a lemon meringue pie in my mother's kitchen when i was ten. Once she tasted it, and said it was better than her own, I was hooked! I take pride in my home made pie crust to this day, although my expertise has expanded, since.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Sunday is a holiday with my mom's family. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, grandkids, and usually a few stragglers gather at my mom's, grandma's, or aunt's, and celebrate food and family. So many of my favorite foods come from those occassions: grandma's chicken and dumplings and blackberry cobbler, my mom's falafel and cream pies, and my aunt's homemade ravioli and one bowl chocolate cake. All make regular appearances, and are always welcome!
My cooking triumphs
I recently started exploring Thai cuisine, and have been pleasantly surprised at how easy, healthy, and delicious these foods can be. Pad thai, pineapple fried rice (trying to copy a dish at our local Thai Taste restaurent - getting close!), and Thai basil chicken are a few that have been making recurring appearances in my kitchen. I've become enchanted by cupcakes as well, recently; as it seems is everyone else. Most recently, a white chocolate cupcake recipe won some great yummy noises from friends!
My cooking tragedies
The first, and most upsetting blunder I ever had in the kitchen resulted in a tossed batch of chocolate chip cookies. In a hurry, I'd grabbed the mint extract instead of vanilla - and the results were disastrous!

Peanut Butter Cupcakes
These were delicoius, with alot peanut butter flavor, but not too much sweetness. Probably not the healthiest breakfast, but a delicious one, no doubt. Plus, the recipe makes a ton, and they were good for freezing for later. Super easy!

Apple Bavarian Torte
This was one of the most beautiful desserts I've ever pulled off. Only change made was a sprinkle of brown sugar over the top with the almonds. Delicious!

Eric's Best New York Style Cheesecake
this turned out perfectly, and was my first attempt at baking a cheesecake, or using a springform pan. Great recipe!
