In college I was a famously bad cook. I would try to make Pasta-roni, but my housemates dubbed my typical final product "Pasta-soup." So one year I decided to make a new dish every week to hopefully improve. Some dishes turned out (made-from-scratch gnocchi's!) and some dishes didn't (my souffle-turned-quiche).
Fortunately, my experiment worked. 8 years later, I'm never afraid to try a new recipe and I am constantly being asked to share my secrets.
My favorite things to cook
I like to experiment with the slow cooker. Beans, soups, even homemade yogurt.
I love making ethnic foods of all kinds - the spicier, the better! I especially love ethnic food fusions.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade pizza. I have started canning pizza sauce which makes from-scratch pizza an inexpensive breeze to make. Everyone picks their own toppings - even better when you're cooking for a picky group.
My cooking triumphs
Any time people quit talking to enjoy their food, I'm happy.
My cooking tragedies
I've caught a few too many things on fire. Mostly towels and wooden utensils. And recently I ruined a wonderful stockpot AND my steamer while trying to steam carrots for baby food. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WATER LEVELS WHILE STEAMING VEGGIES, PEOPLE!
