About this Cook
A 21 year old woman passionate about cooking, baking, reading, creating just about everything by hand, prayer, and God. I've been baking and cooking since my early teens, with varying amounts of success. There's nothing like a home cooked meal at the end of the day to lift your spirits. My photo is of Saint Martha, who has a very long and fascinating story that I don't have the space to tell here.
My favorite things to cook
Strangely enough...spaghetti is one of my favorites. Quick, cheap, easy, delicious, and great for leftovers. I also love baking pretty much everything under the sun. Cookies and breads are my specialties.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was inspired to start cooking by my mother, who is herself an amazing cook. Even though mom worked full time, she still found time to cook wonderful and nutritious meals for us each evening. Her dedication to cooking great food started me off on my cooking journey. My grandmother also loves to bake, and I have fond memories of cookies and various baked goods at her house around the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
Not burning anything for the past couple of months!
My cooking tragedies
There is the infamous "Skunk Cake" that I made entirely by accident when I was 8 or 9, and experimenting with the microwave. My very brave and loving father took a bite of it, then had to politely turn it away. After taking a small bite myself, I realized that this glob of flour, butter, egg, water, and lord knows what else tasted about the same as a skunk smells. Never again did I try to "bake" in a microwave.

Roasted Swiss Chard with Feta
Absolutely wonderful! This is the first time I have ever made swiss chard, and it was a total hit with both my fiancé and I. You don't need to grease the baking sheet, as the olive oil used to coat the chard is more than enough to keep it from sticking. I didn't have any feta cheese on hand, so I grated some cheddar cheese over it instead, and it was totally amazing. Next time I'll have to try the feta!

4H Banana Bread
Amazing banana bread recipe! I made a few changes, however. I took the advice of MommyFromSeattle when it came to the addition of cinnamon and vanilla, as well as switching the white sugar for brown. I didn't have any buttermilk on hand or I would have tried that as well, but as it is this bread came out wonderfully! I didn't have any nuts around, but I threw in some flax seed. It's amazing if eaten while still warm and drizzled with honey.
