Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
Incredible recipe. I made it for a business anniversary event, and it was a total hit; I even had people who claimed to not like cake commenting on how good it was! Even better, it stays moist even in the worst of circumstances -- due to a packed week, I had to make it a whole 4 days before the event, and it was STILL awesome! (Frosted it and wrapped tightly with saran wrap.) I wouldn't recommend that, but it does speak to the greatness of this cake. I didn't change any ingredient amounts. I'll be making this for years to come. Thank you!

The Best Thai Coconut Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
I don't think I've ever had all the ingredients at one time, but this still always turns out great! Lemon grass and fish sauce are ones I've never had -- I substitute green onions and lemon juice for the lemon grass and half soy, half worchestire sauce for the fish sauce. Love it!

Dark Chocolate Bacon Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
I'm a bit mixed on this one. I docked 1 star b/c the bacon detracted from the cake (but I don't think it has to). The cake itself was outstanding. Everyone agreed that the bacon added a strange, surprising chewy texture, though flavor-wise, it was complementary. My advice: If you're going to put the bacon in, be sure to get it *very crispy* and *very small.*

Simple Scones

Easy to make, with or without a food processor! I don't have one, but I just blended the dry ingredients, then cut in the butter with a fork (microwaved just a few seconds, still firm, but not fridge-cold), and added in the rest. I used plain yogurt instead of sour cream. They're just coming out of the oven now, and are perfect! Thank you!

Todd's Famous Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
Perfect. (I used closer to a cup of fresh blueberries, but that was my only tweak.) Mr. Storm adores this recipe, and declared these blueberry pancakes to be the best he'd ever had. I *love* finding a recipe that makes him say that! He's right -- they're tender, fluffy, and the blueberries just take them to another level. Thank you, Alison. :)

Spicy Sweet Potato and Coconut Soup

Absolutely wonderful. My 2 tweaks: The 1T sesame oil was a bit much -- I'd probably just do 1tsp next time. I added 2 cloves of garlic. Love, love, love this recipe!

Perfect. They always come out thick and puffy, just slightly sweet--the ideal Saturday morning pancake. Don't change a thing.

Roasted Kohlrabi

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2009
I picked up a kohlrabi at the farmer's market yesterday, just for kicks because I'd never tried one. Wow. Thanks to this recipe, I'm permanently hooked. Crispy, cheesy, fantastic--and my husband likes it too!
