About this Cook
We're very fortunate to live on a beautiful 10 acres & have 3 horses & 2 cats. When I was about 12 years old my Mom had back surgery. She really needed help with household things especially cooking and cleaning. That's when I fell in love with cooking. Since I first found AR I've been cranking out some great stuff and I really love trying new things.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake. Since I've been using AR I've found so many great recipes and hubby is a great guinea pig. The last couple of Christmases I've been baking, packaging it really cool and giving it as gifts. I didn't realize how much people enjoy receiving it until I watched the look on their faces when they open the gift.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is German so our family meals are fabulous. Rot kohl, rouladen, sauerbraten, spatzle, lots of bread, vanillefinger...mmmmm My sister-in-law and I started our own tradition of getting together once a month to cook a full corse meal of things we've always wanted to try.
My cooking triumphs
I try to have an attitude that everything that turns out really good is a triumph. I have been very lucky with some pretty great looking cakes and pastries. I made my brother's wedding cake so that was definately a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
My one tradedy is the kind that my family will never let me forget. I was 13 and made onion rings for the first (and so far only) time. My Dad and brother got so sick and won't let me forget...ever.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken
Yum-EEE. Oh so good. My husband who isn't a sauce lover (I know, sad) really liked it, alot! I used 4 chicken breasts and started out baking at 375 for 10 min and then 400 for 30 min. I doubled the sauce recipe and in hindsight, had I not done that there wouldn't have had enough to baste the chicken with so if anyone is hesitating about doubling it, it won't turn out nearly as good if you don't. I'll definitely be making this many many more times!!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints
This is the second Christmas I've wanted to try these but I just expected a huge mess with lots of wasted butter and whats left of my raspberry jelly. This is a very simple recipe just the way it is. I formed my little balls, made the indents, stuck them in the fridge, went and watched the beginning of Saturday Night Live, took them out of the fridge, put the jam in and popped them in the oven and perfection. I baked the first tray a couple minutes too long. Seriously this is simple. I dropped a big glob on the floor when I was cleaning my KitchenAid paddle and my dog inhaled the dough!

Salisbury Steak
YUMMY!!! I rarely give a recipe 5 stars but this one deserves it. I added a can of mushroom soup like suggested, browned the steaks and the put them in the oven for an hour. Like I said before, yummy.
