Chef John's Pasta Primavera

Reviewed: May 3, 2015
I would go with only one jalapeno. I thought it was kind of hot. I did love all the green veggies in it tho. Especially the asparagus! Delicious!

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2015
I've made a few Irish Soda bread recipes off the site. I tried this one today because it was made in a cast iron skillet. After measuring all of my pans I found the correct size and made a loaf. This bread is DELICIOUS! I used about 2 cups of golden raisins and opted to not use the caraway seeds. It came out crusty and delicious. After cooling it I put it into a plastic bag and it stayed softer and very moist and still yummy. Tonight I will feed it to my critics...my kids and grands. I'm sure they will agree with me. Try this, you won't be disappointed.

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2014
I would give this crust a 4 1/2 star rating if possible. Only because I found it to be a little fussy when trying to roll it out. I was afraid that I would overwork the dough and make the crust tough. Fortunately after a little coaxing it rolled out and made a delicious butter crust. So happy to have shortening-free crust options! I followed another reviewer's suggestion and rolled from the center out turning the dough a little between each roll. Another "keeper," from Allrecipes! Thanks Dana!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2014
The family really liked these. I doubled everything and baked them in a 9X13 pan. Think I baked them 25-30 mins. I used Penzeys natural high fat cocoa. Really rich chocolate. Will make again.

Death by Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2014
WOW! I am not a big chocolate fan...the rest of the family is so I made this for them. It is VERY rich and it only takes a sliver to satisfy. The recipe is straight forward and quite easy. I used the boiling cream into the food processor method simple and efficient. The melted chocolate mixture cooled to room temp. quickly this way. The hardest part is allowing it to cool 6 hrs. I don't always plan that far ahead. All in all... a delicious and elegant dessert. Would serve on special occasions too! Enjoy! Thanks DEME for sharing!

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
I used soldier beans and pure VT maple syrup as the sweetener. I love the crock pot deal...no watching a bean pot for hours on end. My only complaint would be that the beans sort of turn mushy.

Buster Bar Dessert

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
Everyone gave it rave reviews! I used Bryer's ice cream because it had the least ingredients and when you are eating something this decadent you have to watch all of those ingreds! ;) Should have made homemade whipped cream if I was truly concerned. All that aside... it was delish!

Lemon Pie Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
I did as others suggested and doubled the filling. A little sweet in my estimation could cut the sugar a little. Also, liked these better the next day! Really would rate a 3 1/2 star.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
These were very good. The recipe made a ton of cookies. I just sprinkled them w colored sugar. Was looking for a thicker/cakey-er cookie like from a bakery. Very good tho!

Prime Rib

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2012
I would rate this a three only because I listened to others and used Montreal Seasoning on the outside and unfortunately it made the pan drippings way too salty to make a decent gravy. It cooked pretty much perfectly...I had a 15# boneless prime rib. I covered it and cooked it for 85 mins then left it in the oven for another 90 mins. The ends were pretty well done but the middle was rare and perfect. May try a long, slow roast next year w/ plain old salt and pepper so I can get a nice gravy.

Easy Homemade Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2012
I found this recipe very hard to roll. It came out thicker than ones I have used and liked in the past.(Mostly due to my inability to roll it!) I like that it has butter and no shortening in it but I probably won't use this again! Sorry. :(

Cream of Artichoke Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2012
This was good. More of a 3 1/2 star only because I have a memory of what I was looking for in this soup. I was unable to find frozen atichoke hearts anywhere around here so I used canned. I will probably keep searching for what I want but will keep this recipe too.

These were delicious. I doubled the recipe as suggested by many. The leftovers were put into a ziploc bag and were reheated. Good then too!

Mom's Cucumbers

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2012
These were simple and delicious. Someone gave us a bunch of long thin cukes out of their garden and I needed to find a way to use them. This recipe did the trick. Very similar to a bread and butter pickle taste.

Penne and Vodka Sauce

This is excellent! I have made this a number of times and am surprised that I hadn't taken the time to review it! I sub fat-free 1/2 and 1/2 for the whipping cream but otherwise I make it as directed. It is simpe and EXCELLENT!

Aunt Norma's Rhubarb Muffins

Reviewed: May 22, 2012
These are excellent muffins. Unfortunately I must have blinked or just blanked out where it said it makes 24 muffins. I only prepared one pan and then was surprised that I had so much left over batter! Well I used a mini muffin pan for the rest and even though they overflowed a bit, they were delicious! Love rhubarb recipes!!!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

This was ok. I would have to tweak it if I made it again. It was too sweet for my tastes and had a pretty 'HOT' after-bite!
