Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2014
I followed the directions exactly, but thought they were a little bland. Next time I would definitely add more cheese. I would also like to read through some of the suggestions in other reviews.

Chef John's Quiche Lorraine

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2014
I liked it and would give it four stars, but my husband and three kids did not like it and said two stars. My husband does not like quiche to begin with and this didn't change his mind. The flavor was good, but the texture was not quite for me. The initial bite was a bit of a surprise because it was the texture of custard. The quiches I have had before are a bit firmer. Once I adapted to the texture, I enjoyed it more.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2014
I liked this a lot and would give it four and a half stars. My husband doesn't like lasagna, but he said this lasagna was better than most and gave it a three. My only changes were that I only used a dash of salt, and I used shredded mozzarella. My one complaint is that it seemed to need more ricotta. It was very meaty, which was yummy, but it would have been nice to taste some more ricotta. Next time I would like to double the ricotta mixture. The leftovers are great!

Pesto

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2014
This was tasty. I only used two cloves of garlic, and that was plenty. I couldn't imagine using more. I omitted the parsley. We ate it on pasta and crackers too. I froze the leftovers with a small bit of olive oil on top.

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2014
This was yummy! I made it as written and loved it. My husband gave it four stars, but he rarely gives a five. I wouldn't go more than one tsp of cayenne though.

Roast Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2014
Very good. I tossed all the ingredients in a bowl and then put them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. The potatoes weren't touching. I flipped them after 20 min and then baked them for another 15 min. A few stuck, so perhaps next time I will lightly spray the foil with olive oil.

English Tea Cucumber Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2014
I thought these were ok. They worked well for our tea party. I used wheat bread and cut the slices with a circle cookie cutter. They looked great. I added a dash of dill. I wonder if a different type of bread would make these tastier. My husband gave them a four.

Beef and Guinness® Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2014
This was very good! Even though the stove was on low, the liquid cooked very low. I had to add a lot more chicken stock periodically. The beef was so tender it fell apart when chewing. Very good recipe.

Joy's Prizewinning Trifle

This was really good. It looked beautiful too. I made it exactly as written. My husband gave it a four, but would like to try it again without the pineapple. He thinks he'd prefer it that way.

Proper English Cottage Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2014
I would give this 3.5 stars, but my husband gives it 3. The cinnamon was very prominent in this dish. After reading the reviews, I cut the cinnamon by a tiny bit. I wanted to try it with the cinnamon because I know there is cinnamon in Cincinnati chili, and we love that meal! I would like to try this again, but with maybe only 1/8 tsp cinnamon or none at all.

German Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2014
We halved the recipe. I thought they were ok. They were a bit bland. I was hoping for a bit more flavor. My husband didn't care for them and gave them a 2. My kids didn't care for them either. I ate them plain, and perhaps a dab of sour cream would have made a difference.

Traditional Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
This was very good in spite of the problems I had with it. I followed it exactly. After two hours of cooking on low on the stove, I smelled it burning and was shocked that most of the liquid was gone. I added some water. When I made the gravy, I am not sure I had enough liquid because the gravy was way too thick after a few minutes on the stove. I had to strain it and then add water. I was worried it had all been ruined, but it tasted good. I would like to try this again, but I would like to try cooking it in the oven or in the crockpot.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: May 29, 2014
I really liked this, but my husband said 3 or 4 stars. I followed the recipe, except I used chicken tenders. I tasted the sauce with every bite. I had to add a bit of water to the sauce at the end because there wasn't a lot of it. It turned out great. My young kids gave it 3 stars, which is high for them!

Sweet and Sour Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: May 27, 2014
We thought this was pretty good. It wasn't quite as flavorful as we expected. I would say 3 1/2 stars. I added some leftover diced onions. It definitely was tastier when I had a bite with the onions. I agree with others that it seems to be missing something. I served it on rice. It was an easy dish.
