About this Cook
My name is Jennifer and I am an ER registered nurse. I love my job, and find it incredibly rewarding, but my biggest passion is cooking. I learned everything I know about cooking from my mother/best friend. It became well known around our house that any time she was in the kitchen cooking (whether it was a grilled cheese sandwich or a 5 course meal) that I would be in her kitchen, sitting on the counter, and watching. Eventually, she let me start helping and put me in charge of desserts for when we had family get togethers. I took this responsibility very seriously, and by the time I was 12, my desserts were unmatched by anybody in our family, and after all these years...I'm still in charge of the desserts. I am also very fortunate to me married to a man that I also consider my best friend. We were introduced by my mother, because after meeting him, her words were: "he was weird like my Jenn. He was like the male version of her." Nine years later...I guess she was right.
My favorite things to cook
Obviously desserts. I also love cooking healthy and nutritious meals. My husband and I are both into fitness and strict dieting, and I feel like a wizard chef when I make something that is both delicious and healthy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I are both born and raised Georgians. We both love southern food, but hate how fattening it is. Southern food is often fried or made with an insanely large amount of butter or lard. I like preparing foods that we grew up eating, but preparing them in a more nutritious way. I don't even own a fryer (which is like blasphemy down here in the Bible Belt), so I try to bake everything and make substitutions.
My cooking triumphs
I make an out of this world New York style cheesecake. I also make a great turkey meatloaf. Even people who say they don't like ground turkey have loved it and even asked for the recipe.
My cooking tragedies
I consider myself to be an "above average cook," but don't get me wrong...I have made some indelible stuff over the years. One being my first (and last) attempt at making homemade ravioli. My husband and I had the most amazing butternut squash ravioli at our favorite restaurant that we go to every year on our anniversary. Because it was a special, they didnt have it the following year. Well I got the bright idea that I could just make it myself and I was going to surprise brad when he got home from work. After googling how to make ravioli, I made a trek to the grocery store and got everything I needed. I felt like Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen okay. My butternut squash filling was delicious, and my raviolis were beautiful. I dropped them in the boiling water and started making my sauce, and then everything just went to . All the raviolis busted and the sauce was bland and watery. Chef Boyardee right out of the can would have been exponentially better than the mess I made.

Marshmallow Fondant
This fondant was absolutely delicious! I had never made fondant before and was initially concerned by how sticky this was. After it completely cooled, it was much easier to work with and was just like a dough. I am very new to cake decorating and am playing around with different recipes, but this will be my go to fondant. I will use this as the base for chocolate fondant as well.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball
I made this for a Christmas function, and it received mixed reviews. Most people said it was "okay, but too sweet" and only about half of it got eaten, which was probably by me. To say I have a sweet tooth is a drastic understatement, and I have never uttered the phrase "too sweet" in my life. I made this recipe without making any changes, but unfortunately I think I was the only one who liked it.

Antipasto Pasta Salad
This pasta salad is fantastic. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it. I omit the olives and bell pepper because I don't like them, but my mother makes this with no changes and everyone loves it. Even without the olives and bell pepper this recipe is great and doesn't "seem to be lacking something." 5 stars all the way!
