About this Cook
I live in Alaska and travel around the South Central and Interior quite a bit. I love to be by the ocean and see whales. Beluga's are my absolute favorite. I feel a little sad when I'm not by the water. I enjoy living here and am glad to call it home. Born and raised in AK.!
My favorite things to cook
Bread and soup.
My favorite family cooking traditions
A little mix of Alaskan, Minnesotan, and Upper New York cooking traditions with roots from around the world. Some of our favorites are Speedies, 3 can chili, cast iron cooking, cheesy broccoli, casserole, bread, and lots of stew. My husband is trying to convert me to his North Carolina ways but we'll see.
My cooking triumphs
Train cake, brownies, cookies, tortilla soup and bread. I also make excellent french toast and turkey pot pie. My husband says I make good toast and don't burn boiled water. =)
My cooking tragedies
Curry pumpkin soup. But actually it wasn't bad, I just am not a big fan of curry.

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
Very easy and yummy! I used 1 cup V8 and 1/4 clam juice because I didn't have Clamato. (My husband also bought minced clams because he wasn't sure what to get. I wonder what I'll do with those.) Anyway, I'm packing this for lunches. Yummy!

No-Cream Pasta Primavera
Yummy. Trying to expand my palate. I liked it. Tart. I used quinoa instead of pasta. I also didn't use the cheese because of an allergy BUT could see why it would be good to have it. I liked the quinoa and it changes the carbs to a grain. I can see that we will make this again.

Almond-Crusted Halibut Crystal Symphony
Yum. I wasn't sure I wanted to try something new but am glad I did. I used special mayo, soy creamer and crisco instead of cream and butter because I am milk free. Still turned out good. Probably not exactly as intended but as close as I could get and I loved it. Watch the time in the broiler and cut halibut in to serving size portions. I tried to do a whole filet and that was hard to move around.
