Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2014
These are a great cookie and have enough of a chocolate taste for me. They make a great addition to a Christmas platter. Will go on my holiday baking list. Thanks for the great recipe

My Favorite Beet Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2014
I liked the concept of this recipe but was not totally happy with the dressing. To tart for my liking. To much balsamic vinegar, scaled it back to 1/4 of a cup, 1/3 cup olive oil and half the mustard. I added some honey for a bit of sweetness. I also added pomegranates and candied pecans on top. Great for the holidays. My guests were impressed, even those that don't like beets.

Southern Grilled Barbecued Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2014
This is a great sauce. This is the second time I have made it and this time I added 2 Tablespoons of dehydrated onions. Made it even better. I left tthe lid off the sauce pot and simmered for 40 minutes. The sauce was a great consistency. Nice and thick. I will be using this often.

Cranberry Orange Tea Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2014
I felt the recipe lacked flavour as it is . I made it a second time and added 1 tsp of cinnamon, increased the Orange rind, added 1 tsp of vanilla, a pinch of salt and some walnuts. Because I only added 1/2 cup of applesauce the batter was to dry and added 1/2 cup of milk both times I made this loaf. I substituted chopped dates for the cranberries the second time simply because I didn't have any dried cranberries. I liked the dates for a change. With the changes I made I really liked the loaf.

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2014
I used a 5 lb roast and thought it had a lot of flavour. Not as tender as I would have liked and a little to pink for my liking. I roasted at the indicated temperature for 40 minutes and then turned the oven off and left in the oven another 3 hours. Next time I will add another five minutes to the roasting time at 475 and leave in the oven for 3 hours. The gravy was amazing. My guests thought the roast was delicious.

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2014
I followed the recipe as is and enjoyed the flavour very much. I only gave it a 4 because I guess I'm not a big fan of sausage. Next time I will use steak instead of sausage. And add some fresh mushrooms. Thanks for the recipe.

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
Really enjoyed the flavour of this recipe. I only gave it a 4 because I didn't think there was enough sauce and a litte heavy on the garlic. I tripled the sauce and found it enough. I made it with rice and stir fried some veggies separately. This is a keeper. Thanks for the great recipe.

Stir Fried Sesame Vegetables with Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
This was very good and will make it again. I made a couple of substitutes only because I didn't have peanut or sesame oil. Would use other veggies next time just for a bit of variety. Overall, a great recipe

Greek Cream Cheese-Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
I added fresh chives instead of onion, fresh basil, oregano and a little garlic. I also added a little fresh squeezed lemon juice to the cream cheese. I mixed the spices and chives with the cream cheese and spread this mixture on the chicken. Then I sprinkled the feta, olives and tomato on top. I drizzled a little olive oil on top before baking. I didn't have any spinach so left that out but will add next time I make it. I baked it in the oven for about 40 minutes. I'd like to try breading it next time. Overall a nice change from what I usually make. I served it with wild rice and steamed asparagus.

Slow Cooker Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2014
This is the third time I have made this recipe. It is by far the best pot roast recipe I have ever made. Full of flavour and the gravy is great over mashed potatoes. I agree that searing the beef is key. The tomato paste adds that little something and sautéing the onion garlic and mushrooms adds a lot of flavour. I also sautéed the celery. This is a permanent part of my recipe box. Thanks for the great recipe.

Pomegranate Feta Salad with Lemon Dijon Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2013
This is a great salad. Made it for Christmas dinner this year and it was a very pretty festive salad. I only gave it a 4 because like other reviewers I felt the dressing would be to tart. I cut the red wine vinegar to 2 Tbsp and used 1/2 of a lemon juiced and the zest. A added 2 to 3 Tbsp of maple syrup as a sweetener. I also added 1/2 cup of candied pecans. It was a hit with my guests and a definite keeper for the future.

Roasted Beets 'n' Sweets

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2013
Delicious! Made this as a change from my usual side dishes for Christmas dinner. It was a hit with my guests and I loved it. The only change I made was to use fresh minced garlic instead of the garlic powder. Baking the beets for 20 minutes before adding the other vegetables is best. Great flavour. A definite keeper.

This is very good, especially the second day. As others suggested, used 1 can of tomatoes and 1 can of tomato soup and only 1 can of kidney beans. Added I can of kernel corn and fresh garlic. Will be adding this to my frequently made recipes. Thanks

Jumbo Fluffy Walnut Apple Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2013
Tried these muffins this morning and after looking at the ingredients thought there was to much sugar. I reduced the sugar to 3/4 of a cup and found that was plenty sweet. I omitted the streusel topping as well. It needs more cinnamon without the topping so next time I will increase the cinnamon to 1 tsp and maybe add 1/2 cup of applesauce for a little more moisture. Overall, the recipe is great just modified it to my personal taste. Rated it as a 4 because of the amount of sugar used.

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
I loved the lemon flavor in combination with the blueberries and didn't find the lemon overpowering at all. It came out of the pan just fine and I was able to sample a slice before refrigerating it. I used wild blueberries, 1 cup only as the recipe suggested. This is definitely a keeper. Thanks

English Muffin Loaves

This on'es a keeper. Very much like english muffins you buy in the store, only better. I only incorporated 5 cups of flour and the batter was perfect. This will definitely be made often in my house. Thanks for the great recipe.

Brownie Biscotti

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
These are definitely easy to make. Substituted almonds for the walnuts and dried cranberries for the chocolate chips. Be careful not to bake to long the second time because they will burn, 10 minutes per side is sufficient. Cutting with a good serated bread knife keeps them from crumbling and I only let them sit 15 minutes before cutting.

This was a pretty good dish. I made some changes, omitted the flour, and spices and substituted beef gravy mix for the beef broth. I folded the grated cheese into the whipped potatoes.
