About this Cook
I always wanted to cook but never had time to learn how. When I retired I sort of jumped into it solo. The recipes and reviews on this site have been very helpful to me. I think the hobbies list on this site needs to be expanded to include more diverse interests like golf, pool and watching sports.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods such as meat loaf or home-made spaghetti and meat balls, or anything grilled
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made macaroni and cheese (Triple Cheese Macaroni from this site) my wife raved to her friends about how good it was. No one had ever reacted like that to anything I made before.
My cooking tragedies
The first pie I made looked like Key Lime soup in a pie crust.

Reuben Sandwich II
These are tremendous. I make them with my own corned beef briskit made in a slow cooker the day before. The meat tastes better but I don't have the ability to shave it like a deli can, so there is a trade-off. Also I mix the kraut and dressing together before I spread it on the bread. The kraut stays on better that way. It helps to mash the sandwiches a little with the spatula while they're cooking.

Salisbury Steak
Simple and delicious. I added a can of cream of mushroom soup and a small can of mushrooms to the recipe and eliminated the ketchup. It made a good gravy if you want to serve with mashed potatoes.

Bacon Wrapped Pork Medallions
I made this as directed. It did have a decent flavor but, in my opinion, was too greasy. Pork tenderloin is a delicious cut of juicy, lean meat. It just seems a shame to bury its flavor in a recipe like this.
