Simple BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2014
YUM!!! boiled the meat for an hour, then oven for an hour. came out wonderful; soft, off the bone easy, great taste, not dry at all. I used the hour of oven time to boil potatoes in the same water and they were the best mashed potatoes I've ever made. I also boiled cabbage in it as I'm a fan. choose your bbq sauce wisely, pick one you really like, it will make a difference. Thanks Lloyd!

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2014
I made a few changes... I hate it when people do that here and then say they didn't like it or it was perfect but they made a different recipe than the one posted... so with that caveat- I made it with chicken and used zucchini instead of tofu... but like tofu, the zucchini soaked up all the sauce flavors and was wonderful. I also didn't have hoisin sauce so I used half the amount of miso paste. I know - very different - but I really liked it! The only time the wraps didn't have enough flavor was when I used too much rice on the lettuce; the proportions of the meat to rice need to be right. But the Flavor is there! :) thanks for a great recipe!

Cheddar Pecan Stuffed Mushrooms

made as recipe states though I had to substitute colby-jack for the cheddar as I had none. It was fabulous. Best served hot, so cook them last if possible. DEEE lish!

Sloppy Joes II

Didn't have the green pepper. And I added Worcestershire sauce because I remember other recipes with it and I love it. Good recipe otherwise.

Colorful and Edible Play Dough

Reviewed: May 5, 2014
Followed the recipe exactly. Was worried at first that it was too wet/sticky but waited to add flour until after it cooled and was totally mixed in. It was perfect as is, I didn't need to add anything. My kids love playing with it. It is smooth and elastic and comes off things quickly. Also, you CAN eat it, but it is not MEANT to be eaten. Great recipe! thanks!

Strawberries and Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2014
Easy peasy and delicious. I use less sugar though. 1/2 to 3/4 cup instead. I even made it with cottage cheese when I ran out of sour cream. It was just as good. LOVE this one.

Thai Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
First off I think it was too salty. I ended up doubling the recipe but only added 1/2 cup soy sauce when it should have been 2/3 cup, but it was still too much! I used siracha sauce in place of the red pepper and it was a perfect amount of spice. The flavors were ok, but I would have liked even more orange flavor. (I used orange juice concentrate instead of reg. juice.)It didn't feel like Thai too me at all except the peanuts. Just weird Asian medley with peanuts. I lived in Japan and love Japanese, Thai, Korean and Chinese food. This was just a mush of Asian flavors. Not particularly Thai... I was disappointed.

Chef John's Creamy Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2014
Fist off I LOVE MUSHROOMS so this was a dish I really wanted to try. As far as flavor it didn't disappoint. But, this was more like a 2 hour production, not 1:35, so I took it down a star. It took longer for my mushrooms to cook off the water and caramelize. THANK YOU Chef John for clear and concise instructions otherwise! It WAS very tasty! I loved it, but my family was so-so, their palates being young and not appreciative of the two hours I put into the dish! :/ My only substitution was to use ground thyme instead of the sprigs as I didn't have the fresh thyme. Still worked great. This takes way too long for me to consider using it in place of canned cream of mushroom soup, but on a cold winter night, with cheesy toast and salad it was a wonderful dinner.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2014
I thawed the chicken then forgot to get the spices on over night. So in the morning I rubbed them on at 9:30am and started cooking at 2:30pm at 300 degrees instead of 250. The smell of it cooking was heavenly. I took it out at 6pm and it was perfectly at 170 degrees internal temp. The skin was crispy and the inside was moist and tender. My family of 7 loved it, each and every one! This is a keeper!

Outstanding Chicken Dinner

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
This is basically baked chicken al fredo, with rosemary. I used broccoli instead of artichokes as I didn't have any, and it was good, the family liked it, but I found it not up to it's promise. I thought it would be a different and yummy chicken dinner. I could have just made fettuccine al fredo with chicken and had basically the same thing.

The family liked it but it was bland to me. Needed salt and some stronger flavors, I added garlic and salt but it needed something else too.

Did the recipe just as stated, except did half whole wheat flour. So I put 4 out of 5 stars for that. They were wonderful and the kids gobbled them up. :)

Middle Eastern Rice with Black Beans and Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2012
I totally rearranged this recipe but what was the real star for me was the spice mix. So tasty. I had cooked rice already and so I mixed the garlic with the spices and added them to the beans (just black beans, no garbanzo) added minced onion too, then served the spiced beans over the rice with a fried egg and yogurt. I also had sliced lettuce and spinach to complement it. Wow yummy.

Very tasty, juicy moist breast meat and yummy sauce that the whole family loved. I omitted the wine but added more broth and used a bit of corn starch like others have... delish!

Coconut-Raisin Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
This is a semi firm pudding that will dish up like a loose cake. Its not liquidy but doesn't need to be to be wonderful! I made it as directed except I stirred the coconut in instead of waiting to put it on top. I love coconut and this one didn't need coconut milk to have the coconut flavor i crave. I also liked that it used a lot of rice. Excellent.
