Not the best icing recipe for fine piping tips! Got stiff way too quickly!! Would advise to keep looking for a better recipe!

Recipe could probably benefit from a smidge more salt but not a bad recipe! Thanks

Homemade Pork Sausage

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
Ok sausage... BUT thank goodness I only did half a recipe... The recipe as written is far too salty and just a little too spicy (and I love heat)... I would cut the salt in half and probably half the cayenne & black pepper as well. Probably will not make again... going to keep looking for another homemade sausage recipe!

Mini Cheesecakes I

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2011
For the small amount of ingredients required this deserves more than 5 stars! Quick, simple and SO delicious! I used a 400 gram tub of smooth cream cheese, 2 eggs, 1 Tbsp Vanilla, 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice and half a cup of splenda! A little more healthy and divine! If you are hesitant to try this, don't be! It doesn't compare to real purist cheesecake but it's not bad for being so easy and quick!!!! GIVE THIS A TRY!

Buttermilk Syrup

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2011
This syrup is a welcome change from the grocery store sticky goo to we usually buy! I did use a LARGE pot to make this in because it will boil up! I don't even think I let it boil the full 7 minutes, when it was the color and consistency I wanted, I took it off the heat. Keep in mind it does continue to thicken once off the heat! Will make again!

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
Don't let my rating fool you, these are good... they're just not what you might think. They truly are more dense like a biscuit rather than spongy and airy like a cupcake should be. The lemon flavor is mild at best and they are not VERY sweet. Before I even made the recipe I had gone through the reviews and knew I would want more lemon flavor so I made Lemon Curd ahead of time. I piped the curd into the cupcakes and frosted with my own cream cheese frosting. With my changes they blew me away, but by themselves they are definitely lacking. I hate to say it because I trust all of the 'tasteofhome' recipes but you're better off buying a cake mix than using this recipe!! They were not dry either by the way just very very biscuit like and kind of harder on the outside (I did not overcook-- again texture similar to biscuit) Thanks for reading and good luck!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
I have made this cake twice now. The first time I used half margarine, half butter & half splenda, half white sugar, baked it in a 9" springform for 45 mintues. that was WAY too long, came out burnt! So the second time I used all butter and all splenda, added a shredded apple to the center as another reviewer suggested and baked in the same 9" springform this time for 28 minutes and it was perfect! It's a very moist and simple cake. I found the batter was a bit challenging to work with and spread in the pan but if you don't mind getting your hands full of batter then it's perfect!!! Will definitely keep making! Thanks for a great, versatile recipe!

Easy Cheese Ball II

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2011
3 stars as is. This is far too salty/tangy with the whole packet of ranch dressing mix. I put in 1 extra block of cream cheese and it improved this dish tenfold! So instead of using 2 (8 oz) blocks of cream cheese, use 3 and the recipe is perfect!

Chinese Chicken Fried Rice II

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2011
Not really an authentic recipe. Wasn't the worst but I won't waste my time with this again. The soy sauce needs to be cut, the recipe calls for too much! I give this recipe a pass, because the end result just isn't worth the effort.

AMAZING! I had no idea Balsamic and Strawberries went so well together! I was hesitant to try but I'm glad I did!!!! I did substitute the sugar for Splenda granular but it still came out amazing :) Put over ice cream and this is pure bliss!! Simple and elegant! Will definitely keep making!

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
This soup is AMAZING!!! I did add one ingredient, I added about 3 cloves of minced garlic to the bacon grease before adding the leeks. I also substituted 18% cream for the heavy cream to help lighten this up a bit. Serve with some shredded cheddar on top and this is an amazing, hearty dinner!!

I added more flavor but this is a great dish! I sautéed garlic before the onion and added worcestershire (sp?) sauce to the beef before making the gravy! Great, hearty meal for a cold winter night!
