About this Cook
I'm a baby boomer brought up on convenience foods of the 60's - the most home cooking I did was helping my grandma bake when I was little. Was married briefly to a Sicilian whose family cooked so I didn't have to, but did learn the joy of eating. Then I married a man who loved to eat EVERYTHING and we moved to Arizona in the 80's. With time on my hands, and exposure to Mexican and Southwest foods, I decided to learn to cook them and everything else I could manage.
My favorite things to cook
I like to craft-cook; I call them my "projects" - gumbos, international dishes, elaborate desserts. Also have loved to make bread since the granola-girl era of the 70's. Much easier now with the advent of the bread machine which I use mostly just to make the dough. Then I can form and bake it however I like. We're lovin' the results if you could see our scales.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking together with my daughter and watching her develop specialties of her own, and making crazy big meals with our best friends of 40 years.
My cooking triumphs
Making sushi that my guests said looked better than our local grocery's, and manicotti crepes from scratch.
My cooking tragedies
Waldorf cake (aka red velvet cake) which my family still refers to as "red lead" due to its weight - that thing was heavy!

Homemade Fresh Pumpkin Pie
Flavor wise and convenience-wise I would give this a 5-Star. But, when I made it yesterday, it took almost 75 min. to bake at 350. Looked it up in Joy of Cooking and recipe almost identical, should be 15 min at 425 then 45 min at 350. Cover the crust with foil to prevent over-browning. Taste is great, spices mild enough to so that majority of eaters will like. Crank 'em up a little for more sophisticated audience.

Zucchini Chocolate Chip Cake
Good recipe as written. Made this yesterday, and even tho I lacked the choc chips and my measurements weren't spot-on, it came out great. Pressed and squeezed the moisture from my zucchini very well before using. Made it into two 8X8 pans so I could share it and the amount worked fine. Hubby and I had it with some Turkey Hill special chocolate flavor ice cream - Yum!

Bella's Brussels Sprouts with Bacon
Made exactly as written - very good and a tasty alternative to plain old boiled & buttered brussels!
