MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
Delicious brownie recipe. Very easy to make, only dirties up one pan to mix all the ingredients! I used the Splenda baking blend instead of regular sugar and they still turned out wonderful. I might try to use whole wheat or white whole wheat flour next time for a healthier alternative and see how they turn out.

Gingerbread Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
This was my first gingerbread recipe to try. I was quite pleased with how easy it was and it's is also super tasty. I made a 1/2 batch for testing. I think I may try the 1/2 sub maple syrup on the next batch, I think mostly just because I can't stand the smell of uncooked molasses. I agree that the optional 1/2 c flour should be mandatory, it is definitely needed. I refrigerated only for about 30 min to 1 hr. I ended up rolling the dough out thicker(almost 1/2 inch) and we liked those cookies much more than the thinner ones. The thick ones had the perfect amount of softness, I baked them for about 8-10 minutes

Birthday Bones

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
I made these for X-mas for all my furry friends. I made a double recipe. But, I used honey roast crunchy peanut butter(its what I had avail) and added a little extra, used 2% milk, and all purpose flour and added a little salt because the batter was really bland. However, my dogs LOVE them! I'm going to start using this recipe instead of buying treat bones from the store. Next time I think I will try it with whole wheat flour, I'm thinking it may add more flavor... EDIT: I changed this recipe from 4* to 5* because now I HAVE to use this recipe instead of store bought bones. My dogs now refuse the other kind. :)

RO's Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
I only made the meatballs. I used 16 oz of ground turkey and added a little chopped onion and salt and pepper. These were too sweet for my family. My husband said they tasted like "meat candy" which wasn't really a great thing. Maybe if you only use 1/2 cup per 16 oz meat, they would probably be good.

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
This bread did not turn out the crispy crust like I'd hoped for. However, It was easy to make, this was the first bread I've made from scratch. This bread would be great for sandwiches.

Rum Cake II

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
Great recipe. I ended up doing a few substitutions based on reviews and what I had in my kitchen. I used 2% milk instead of buttermilk, I used 1/2 cup rum instead of rum extract(not overpowering at all). For the glaze, I felt it was a little overpowering with rum, next time I'll probably only use 1/4 cup. I poked TONS of holes in the cake but did have a hard time getting it to soak up the glaze, next time I'll try to submerge it more somehow because the glaze pooled in the middle and the middle 1 inch of the cake soaked it up very well. The cake itself is a heavy cake, very dense, but it is very nice! Next time I will add nuts to the cake batter or to the bottom of the pan. This recipe will defiantly stay in my kitchen with just those few changes.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
This was the 1st cake I've tried to make from scratch. I thought it was okay. The cake seems a little spongy not light and fluffy like it should be. I made this last night and tried one of the cupcakes and it tasted like it had oil in it even though it doesn't. I tried one today(after they set overnight) and it didn't have that "oil" taste, and was quite a bit better tasting, but still lacking the light fluffy texture that I was looking for.

Easiest, Most Delicious Meringue Buttercream

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
this was the first buttercream icing I've tried to make...I personally don't like it. I didn't think it had the creamy consistency that icing should have. It seems too runny. I could have done something wrong though, since it was my 1st time.
