About this Cook
I was never welcome in the kitchen while growing up, until I was old enough to bake some cookies or a "TV dinner" by myself. Therefore, I knew next to nothing about cooking until I was in my late twenties. Over time, I discovered a love and modest facility for all things culinary!
My favorite things to cook
Yeast breads, hearty breakfasts, campfire cuisine!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's spaghetti and Scottish shortbread recipes and my grandmother's no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies. I have many of their old cookbooks--some dating back to the 1920's. I love "heritage" type cooking. My parents are deceased, but my sister and I ALWAYS get our families together for Christmas Eve!
My cooking triumphs
Getting the hang of yeast breads; convincing my husband that I really did NEED a nutmeg grater. Oh, yeah, and a beautiful lemon meringue pie on my first attempt!
My cooking tragedies
My worst kitchen memory is of, several years ago, staying up late to bake 7 dozen cookies for a cookie exchange. An inexperienced dope, I tried a new recipe--which was AWFUL! So I had to substitute 7 dozen of another recipe, which was also untried, but I was desperate. They weren't awful, but nothing to rave about. I think I got to bed about 3 AM. Up again at 6. Never again.

Penne Pasta with Veggies
The grownups in the household loved this, but the younger set picked out the tomatoes and bell pepper. I didn't use an entire cup of the bell pepper, just chopped one. Thanks for the recipe. Yummy!

Modenese Pork Chops
YUMMO!! Following the recipe almost exactly; swapped olive oil for butter. Only giving it 4 stars because I thought it was a tad too salty, but I was the only one in the family who did. Thanks for the recipe! I'll make it often.
