I come from a large family of great cooks. My paternsl grandfather was the executive chef for an exclusive men's club in Pasadena, California and my grandmother was an excellent home cook. Her specialty was Mexican food. They very graciously shared their skills and secrets with me. Growing up I was always welcome in my grandparent's kitchen. They patiently taught me how to use and care for knives, properly. I can still hear my grandfather telling me "Tuck you fingers in, you don't want to cut yourself while you're chopping." or " A dull knife is a dangerous knife." I learned to make everthing from puff pastry to Coq au vin. Chile Verde to tamales and so much more. I love to cook because they are my inspiration. My children and grandchildren are always welcome in my kitchen. I pass on everyting I know to them. My daughter has, also, become sn excellent cook and my 12 year old grandson is working on his own cookbook! He wants to go to culinary school.
My favorite things to cook
Roasted or braised meats and vegetables, Soups and stews.Sea food.
For desserts I love to make cheesecakes, Napoleons, Triffles, Bread Pudding.
Durring Fall and Winter I try to bake all of our bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Durring all holidays my daughter, daughters-in-law,sister-in-law,and neices get together to prepare our holiday specialties. Depending on the season, it could be anything from roasted game,(if my son has had good hunting or fishing), phesant, turkeys, hams, prime rib. Roasted vegetable medlies, tamales. Truffles and assorted chocolate dipped confections strudles,cookies, caramel apples. We have a great time no matter what the season.
