My name is Daisy, i am an interior decorator with Havana House Interiors.
I am Married with 3 beautiful children. My husband and i love to cook together. He can make up recipes out of the blue and i have a knack for making good food better. You can find us any weekend testing recipes over and over trying to refine them. My husband has been a featured cooking guest on Model Latina, Deceptor Outdoors (Game cooking), E! Channel, and Riviera Magazine - and i get the benefit of all his great food. Why do you think i married him? I on the other hand love
comfort food, i love my grandmothers' old Cuban recipes for all the food i grew up with - nothing fancy, actually most Cuban food is peasant food and their is not much better!!!
My favorite things to cook
Soups and Salads, Salads, SALADS! I love salads and most of my leftovers turn into some sort of salad or another. My kids love them and we always have tortilas or lavash around to turn any salad into a wrap. I like them meaty, full of flavor, flling, and only with homemade dressing. I believe dressings are key and because i am allergic to preservatives i have always made them home made, as well as the croutons.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every early Spring we go to several nurseries and buy new herbs and tomatoes and peppers to plant in our garden to enjoy through fall. I love using fresh herbs in our cooking. I love the "oh, i'm out of basil" then just walking into my back yard to clip some. My favorite is when the tomatoes are finally perfect, cutting them up with fresh basil and mozzarella fresca and drizzled with our home-made italian dressing with a big loaf of french bread - there is not much better!!!
Sunday Dinners, for years were know as the Triple S - Steaks, Salad & Sopranos. Big Ribeyes and a fabulous Salad, it's a bummer the Sopranos are over! For Fall and winter it's Soups & Stews.
My cooking triumphs
Just rencently i perfected my Buttermilk Ranch dressing and Blue Cheese Dressing - everyone looks for an excuse to eat it. That's when you know it's good.
My kids love salads and veggies and lots of fruit - i consider that a triumph when i see how other kids eat. I think the trick is to start them young - my kids love to go to farmer's market with me and taste the samples of fruit and let them pick thier fruit - that way they never felt forced. Also by keeping some junk in the house they never felt we were tricking them into healthy foods.
My cooking tragedies
I tend to over spice things when i first try a new recipe and have to start over. I love herbs and get a little carried away and have to again..start over. :)
