Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2011
i used stewed tomatoes since thats what i had and i added a can of ranch style beans to help it stretch. i dont think i used a tablespoon of salt and i used reduced sodium soy sauce. i dont have italian seasoning so i shook same basil rosemary and garlic in. i drained my tomatoes too. very good just like i remember my moms goulash. i liked that this will feed everyone tomorrow night too.

Mexican Cornbread I

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2011
i hate giving bad reviews but this time its warranted! i make alot of cornbread its probably the one thing i never mess up. this came out really eggy and theres way too much cheese in it and i reduced it by a cup. 3 cups is alot. i liked that this recipe wasnt too sweet but it lacked a punch which i would expect from mexican cornbread. i think half the corn would be better. wet and eggy and not spicy is exactly how id describe this. i did make it in a cast iron skillet that i sprayed and then got hot in my oven before pouring the batter in. this is a southern trick and gives a nice crust to the cornbread. sorry i just didnt care for this. if i made this again id reduce the cream corn, use only 1 egg, and use 2 cups cheese and add something maybe taco seasoning or picante sauce.

Thousand Island Dressing III

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
made this on the fly for a dinner guest . didnt have time to chill it long only about 20 minutes. this is crazy good and i dont eat thousand island on salads. i think this would be excellent on cheeseburgers as a burger sauce. i also like it doesnt use ketchup i just cant get my brain around ketchup on salad even if it is mixed with mayo. great recipe thank you!

Camp Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
i had a can of cream corn that nobody would eat plain so i made this. this has all great reviews so i hate to leave a sub par one but this doesnt need a 1/2 cup of sugar i cut it in half and this came out more like cake than cornbread. sorry just not for us.

the baking step on these makes them stellar i subbed garlic salt for the onion salt and used alot less sour cream and cream cheese. i sprinkled the top with a tiny but of cheddar cheese and green onions just for the pretty factor. my little girl had 2 helpings!

Chops in Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
i tweaked this based on what i had going on for dinner. i used 6 thin pork chops and i doubled the soup to make sure there was enough gravy. i dusted the chops with cornmeal before i browned them. i have to do this any time i pan fry pork chops it makes a nice thin brown crust on them. i didnt have alot of milk so i used evaporated milk and i also used butter flavor non stick spray instead of the butter. luckily i sliced off a small piece of the chop to taste it before i added the soup. it was.. bland. i dont think omitting the butter would have made a huge difference in the flavor but i shook some garlic, rosemary, mrs dash and lots of black pepper on the chops, let them brown a little more and then added the soup. it made a big difference adding the seasoning. i also added some fresh mushrooms i had to use up and i simmered a little longer than 20 minutes. this is a great base recipe for smothered pork chops but it needs some tweaks.

Hershey's ® 'Perfectly Chocolate' Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
i made this from the recipe on the side of the cocoa can and then an AR member pointed out the recipe was on the site and i had to review it. i didnt make the frosting only the cake. this cake is a keeper! im not a scratch baker i always use a box cqke mix. no more! well not for chocolate. this recipe is easy and not intimidating and came together beautifully. its moist and rich and even though i frosted it with a canned coconut pecan frosting i dont think it really needs more than a light dust of powdered sugar or a simple glaze. totally proud of myself and my clients at work ate it up. five stars all the way.

Olive Oil Dip for Italian Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
i didnt press the garlic all over the plate i just whisked it together in a bowl. i let it warm on the stove while i made the rest of dinner. i liked this. it was good for my semi stale loaf of french bread i made with dinner. i would make this again but i would use 3 cloves of garlic ( AND I LOVE GARLIC) but id leave the balsamic the same i didnt think it was too much and id add a little salt. strong bread dip recipe and good too.

Chicken Broccoli Supper

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
i kept to the recipe as much as i could since i havent ever made a casserole where you dont precook your noodles. i didnt have the elbows so i used egg noodles and no cream of soups in the house so i measured out 11 ounces of sour cream and used that instead i also added about 1/4 cup of chopped onion i had to use up and i used less cheese. i dont think my changes affected the outcome of the recipe really. this was good. it needed something else. maybe a little franks hot sauce or some dry mustard? i do like that you dont cook the pasta first thats a real time saver. thanks

Tortilla Rollups I

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
ive been searching for a good recipe for these and this is the first ive tried that wasnt just someone telling me how to make them. these are ok. theyre pretty plain and i expected more from the salsa. i just made 2 tortillas using hot salsa for my dh and i to have on a snacky lunch plate we shared. i think this is the base of all of these rolled tortilla recipes. if i make this again ill add shredded cheese and maybe some rooster sauce. good if you like bland but probably not so if you like something more spicy.

Mexican Corn Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
halved this recipe and made this with on hand ingredients. used jarred jalapenos and increased them since they seem less hot and i eyeballed the oil.. made it in a cast iron skillet and heated the greased skillet prior to pouring the batter in so it would get a nice crispy brown crust. ill make this again.

My Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
im rating this more for the seasonings more than the recipe. i increased the servings to 16 because i wanted to make this last a couple days and freeze a container too. i used 2 tall cans of chili beans, 3 stewed tomatoes, and 2 tomato sauce. i only had about 1 and 1/2 lbs of ground beef and it seemed plenty meaty for us. after i tasted it i did add 2 tsp of brown sugar to cut the acidity. my husband used rooster sauce to make his a little hotter and my 6 year old who hates chili saying its too spicy had a whole bowl last night and a burrito with it tonight. pleased with this.

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2011
i subbed apple juice for the sherry since i dont keep it on hand and this is by far one of the best pork chop recipe ive tried on this site. i did add about a half of a sliced white onion to the pan when i did the garlic and i sprinkled the chops with ms dash before i cooked them. very slight changes i dont think altered the recipe a bit. this was amazing and great with mashed potatoes green beans and a tomato salad. ill make this alot this winter!

Fresh Tomato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2011
as is its ok. i needed more vinegar so the entire salad would be coated so i doubled it. ( i used 2 first and it wasnt enough) after i tried it i added a good drizzle of olive oil and a scant tsp sugar and it was perfect. it was better after it chilled in the fridge a couple hours. thanks for the recipe.

Tuna Egg Sandwich

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
i made this early this morning so that it could get cold today while i do stuff to get my daughter ready for school tomorrow. tonight is meet the teacher so this will be easy to put together a cool dinner with. as is its good. i made it exactly to the recipe tasted it and it wasnt right and didnt hold together welll and so i ended up adding another can of tuna and a more mayo about 3 tblsp and a big chopped garlic dill pickle and some minced onion since my daughter wont eat big chunks of raw onion and i love it in tuna. it was better. a cup of celery and only 1 tablespoon of mayo and this will barely hold together. With a few changes this could be a good five star basic tuna salad recipe.

Zinfandel Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
i used red wine vinegar for this and used it in another pasta salad recipe i found that i needed a red wine dressing for. when i tasted this i thought the basil was a little brave with this and would cut it down next time. other than that solid recipe really and the measurements ( with the exception of the basil) are pretty right on. thanks.

Hope's Colorful Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
i didnt have the broccoli but i kept everything else pretty true to the recipe. i dont think i used 2 cups of mayo but i probably used more than 8 oz of the salad dressing. i used a home made version from this site. i like the dry mustard in this. it gives it something extra. it makes alot but i sent some to my mother in law and she called for the recipe. ill try it with broccoli too but i dont see how this could get any better. five stars.
