Southern Coleslaw

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2011
i wish i could give 3 and a half stars for this. the best way to describe it was.. pretty and interesting tasting. i made enough for 20 servings and there wasnt much left but i did see a table next to us who had a serving of it barely touched. 4 at our table had it and all said they prefer a regular coleslaw with a mayo/vinegar/sugar dressing. the egg was kind of strange but the bacon is ok i used dijon mustard because i didnt have grainy but i dont think it changed the result that much. thanks but it was just ok

Never Enough Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2011
i did change this a little because i got to work tonight to find out we were going to a bring a dish function. i substituted extra sharp cheddar for the velveeta and fried and crumbled some bacon and used fresh mushrooms. this was a hit! there were about 300 people at this event and more food than ive ever seen and when i went back for our dishes there was alot leftover but this dish was empty... i did notice that several peoples dishes had the recipe attached to the side and next time ill do that because a few people asked for it.

Tomatoes With Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
this is a fantastic simple dressing for over sliced tomatoes. my method was different i combined all the ingredients ( decreasing the sugar and adding some garlic) and i sliced my tomatoes thick laid them in a bowl, poured the dressing over and let it sit for about an hour. really good and simple it really doesnt need any tweaks but i might add a tsp of mustard if i use the full amount of sugar i think it would be an interesting variation. thanks!

Leftover Dog Pile

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
i upped the servings to 3 and used easy chili 1 from this site. my little girl loved this my husband was a harder sell but in the end he said i could make this again. i did up the onions a little bit and put jala[penos on mine and my husbands. solid recipe, easy and not fussy and just what i was looking for when i was stressed and tired of eating chili and cornbread.

Greek Souvlaki Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2011
i used prepared mustard instead of dry since i didnt have any and upped the garlic to a whole clove. this was awesome on a spinach, tomato and onion salad. this will make it into the home made dressing rotation my husband couldnt stop saying how good it was.

Quick Chili I

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2011
this was an easy quick chili. i doubled the recipe except for the meat and sugar and i didnt have italian style diced tomatoes so i used regular diced and added a teaspoon of italian seasoning which i dont think made much of a flavor difference. this was good and i have a big container to freeze for later in the fall. thanks.

Honey Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
i only used 1/3 of honey since its so pricey and this is going to be spread on toast to go with oatmeal for tomorrows breakfast i spread some on a saltine just to make sure it was sweet enough and its perfect.

Slow-Cooked Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
i had to adapt this recipe a little to what i had on hand. i didnt have any cream soup so i used sour cream and i used an 8oz package and made up the other 12 ounces with evaporated milk, a few coarsely chopped mushrooms and i used chicken bullion and chopped red onion instead of the soup mix. i used butter instead of margarine and i used a little less parm and some shredded sharp cheddar since i didnt have a full 1/4 cup. this was very good i havent made many chicken and rice type casseroles but this is going in the rotation. we had bread and butter and a salad. comforting.

i needed something on the fly to feed alot of people on short notice and this fit perfectly. i did chop my stewed tomatoes coarsly and i added franks red hot, garlic, salt and pepper. i served this with green beans, buttered bread and sliced cucmbers with lemon. i never thought id give a hot dog recipe five stars but this hits alot of high notes- kid friendly, makes alot and isnt expensive to make.

Vanilla Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
this needs more milk like all the reviews stated ( almost) i did prepare it as written but had to add more milk based on what i was going to use it for. i had to cook a giant sunday dinner on the fly so no time to make a home made dessert. i bought a lemon cake from the bakery and poked holes in it and made this glaze to the right consistency and poured it over the cake and garnished it with lemon slices. very good and simple and thats just what i wanted.

Aunt Ro's Baked Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
used a little less brown sugar and 4 strips of bacon since its so expensive lately. kept everything else the same and used a home made bbq sauce. i omitted the ground beef since this was a side dish to a bbq meal and i added about 2 tablespoons of minced garlic since we like it so much. good recipe i love the butter beans in this!

Floating Cucumber, Tomato, and Onion Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
8 cups is alot of cucumbers especially when you only have 1 onion and 1 tomato to add in. i used 2 large cucumbers and 1 giant tomato and onion. i cut the sugar quite a bit since a cup and a half seemed like alot to me. i didnt have the celery seed and i did add a shake of garlic salt and pepper after i had let it sit and i tried it. good recipe but i think the amounts might need to be adjusted. thanks

Cheesy Green Onion Bagel Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
made as is at first. i used sweet onion instead of green since i didnt have any. i used this as an appetizer for a big sunday dinner i made today. after i tasted it i fried 4 trips of bacon and crumbled it in and added salt pepper and garlic. its not a very pretty dip and i added some chopped red pepper to add some color. its a good base recipe. i used town house crackers to dip it with.

Dave's Coleslaw

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
this is a good coleslaw recipe. i used a garlic dill and used a bigger sweet onion since i didnt have any green onions. i didnt use near the dressing it made maybe 1/2 so if i make this again ill cut all the dressing ingredients by at least half. the recipe states let it sit and thats absolutely correct i didnt think id like it so well right after i made it but as soon as the flavors melded this was good.

i didnt use the corn syrup i didnt have any. very good recipe! went great for pulled pork sandwiches. i think making the dry part and storing it in a jar would make this a little easier.
