Mama D's Italian Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
Haven't had a lot of luck with this as a loaf of bread, but I think that's my problem, not the recipe. What this recipe excels at is pizza crust. Let it sit in the fridge for a day or more and it is the best we've had. And we've tried a LOT!

Southern Style Honey Butter

This is it! I've finally got a great topping for my orange waffles. Added about 1 1/2 tablespoons of orange zest to this batch and it is a perfect compliment!

Mom's Best Waffles

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
I've made these twice now. Both times with half AP flour and half WW flour since I have some whole wheat flour that I really need to use up. Very very good! Next time, I'll try it will all AP like the recipe calls for. I also had a small orange I wanted to use this time, so I zested it and added the juice and zest to the batter. Also threw in a 1/2 tsp of vanilla. OMG. This recipe is a keeper and a great base to modify. Thank you for posting!

Beef Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
Delicious! I used what we had, which was sirloin roast instead of stew beef, boullion cubes in place of granules, and dried egg noodles rather than frozen. All else was the same. The sirloin is a must next time too. Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

Excellent Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
We were looking for a way to use up our leftover homemade turkey gravy and fresh broccoli from Thanksgiving. When we came across this recipe using quite a bit of chicken stock, we knew we had a winner. The gravy added the extra bit of thickness the recipe needed. We did use more broccoli than the recipe called for to use up what we had on hand. Other than those two modifications, this recipe was fabulous. It was so good, now we're afraid to try it without the leftover gravy!! We're not usually big fans of processed cheese, but I think the recipe needs it. If we had used all cheddar, it would have been too sharp. Really nice soup!

Blender White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
The flavor, texture and appearance was excellent and no KNEADING! Yeah! One caveat...I think the cook time is waaaay too long. I took it out at 30 minutes and it was very brown and definitely done. Maybe my oven temp is not accurate, but I think I even could have taken it out at 25 minutes. Thanks for an excellent recipe.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
The first time I made them, I let the cc mixture form a layer on the top. But the second time, I put the filling in a ziploc bag and squeezed it into the middle of the muffin to make a filling. OH MY! I was out of oil the second time I made them and just used extra pumpkin in place of the oil and it was just fine. I will be making these again and again. And I did add another teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, a dash of ginger and a dash of nutmeg. But I like things spicy.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
I will be keeping this recipe for a long time. I did take the following tips from other reviewers: 1) bump the temp down to 350. 2) add a little more flour (helped to combat stickiness) 3) add a little black pepper for some zip 4) wet my hands to make the dough shaping easier. The flavor was exactly what I hoped it would be. I left some plain and I drizzled some with a simple sugar glaze (powdered sugar, water, vanilla). I'm going to try these with Splenda for my diabetic family and friends. A tip for first timers: the logs spread when baking, so don't put them too close together if you're using one cookie sheet. And I was too lazy to move the baking rack from the bottom to the middle shelf and they got a little browner than I wanted. Good thing the temp was only 350. If it was 375, that laziness could have been catastrophic! Even with these boo-boos, they turned out awesome!

Although I think these could use a little more flavor, they make a beautiful, impressive looking side dish. My family raved about them.

Butter-Dipped Biscuit Squares

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
I was also confused about whether to put all the butter in the baking pan or if I was just supposed to coat the biscuit on both sides and leave the rest of the butter out. It seemed like I was supposed to leave all the butter in the pan, so I did. I think this was a mistake. There was waaaaaay too much butter (and I like butter). If I tried these again I would cut a lot of the sugar out. They were too sweet with the amount called for. I may give them another try with some modifications, but the current recipe isn't for me.
