Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
My family didn't "love" this recipe, but I made some changes based on other reviews and what I had on hand. I lowered the sugar to half a cup and it was still very sweet. I used almond milk in place of the regular milk and evaporated milk in lieu of the heavy cream because they are what I had on hand. I also added about a cup of strong black coffee (this was only made for adults) to help cut the sweetness. Overall it's a great basic recipe that is easy to make and customize for particular tastes, etc. I'll definitely make this again during the holiday season. I'll be adding cinnamon and peppermint to the recipe because that's how I like it.

Husband loved this recipe. I substituted chianti for the marsala and doubled the mushrooms.

Cream of Mushroom and Soy Sauce Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
This was the basis of a great recipe for me. I did change it quite a bit to suit our needs. 1) i generously sprayed the crockpot with cooking spray. 2) i put in 4 FROZEN bone in pork chops 3) i sprinkled onion soup mix over the chops 4) i put 2 medium sliced potatoes on top of the soup mix. 5) i dumped in the cream of mushroom soup, a little soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. 6) i cooked it on high for 1 hour, then reduced to low for 5 hours. It was delicious. Next time i will add some frozen brussel sprouts in the last hour of cooking for an incredible one dish meal. Don't be afraid to play with this recipe, it is a great starting point.

Lemon Pie Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2014
These were very good. I followed the advice of another reviewer and increased the filling amount by half while keeping the crust amount the same. This worked out very well for us. This definitely would have been a five star recipe if it had been submitted with the increased filling amount.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2014
We love this recipe. I use my bread machine to do all the mixing, kneading and rising. At the end of the cycle I remove the dough and bake it in a 375 degree oven. I can't even recall how many times i have made this. A definite keeper :)

OREO® Triple Layer Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2014
I made it as written and after refrigerating overnight we could not cut and serve a "piece of pie". We spooned out a serving for my husband and then i put the pie in the freezer. Freezing it and then serving we could definitely see all three layers and the pie was easy to cut and serve.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2014
This recipe was ok and easy to make. I followed it exactly with the exception of putting the chocolate chips on the crust and I used a few more pecans than called for. My husband and his friend (both bourbon lovers) really liked this which is why I gave this four stars vs three. Being from Georgia and a pecan pie purist, I wouldn't make this again as written. I think i may try adding the bourbon to my standard pecan pie recipe because I think the guys really liked the addition. The chocolate and kind of "custardy" filling of this recipe just didn't work for me though and is not worth repeating.

Zucchini Casserole II

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2014
We absolutely loved this. I had to use gluten free stuffing but the rest of the ingredients were as listed. I did skip precookong the zucchini out of personal preference. I detest overcooked zucchini. By skipping the precooking step my zucchini came out nice and crisp/tender. I will definitely make this one again and again.

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
I make this recipe all the time. It is so easy. If I have beer, I use it. We keep our beer in the fridge, so I measure out a cup of beer, then microwave it for 30 seconds. Makes it nice and warm and flat. If I don't have any beer I substitute diet cola with no problems whatsoever. The flavor is not quite as "yeasty", but it's still delicious, and a GREAT way to use that last little bit of flat soda in the bottle! For my family, this recipe makes two 16" round pizzas. We don't like a really thick crust. When I make this, I separate the dough into two balls. One, I press out and top/bake immediately and the other I spray with cooking spray then roll up in plastic wrap that has also been sprayed. I then roll the plastic wrapped ball in tinfoil. I freeze the remaining dough. I've kept it in the freezer for as long as 2 weeks, but I'm sure it would keep for a month. When I'm ready to use the frozen dough, I just sit it on the counter to defrost (usually takes about 3 hours) then press out and bake as directed.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2013
We really liked this recipe. I made it as written with the exception of using frozen shrimp and adding about a tbs of Old Bay seasoning. It was very easy to prepare. Yes, a cup of butter seemed excessive, but made a very delicious sauce for the pasta I served with the shrimp. I did want to add that I only baked the shrimp/sauce for 8 minutes and the shrimp was somewhat overdone. The next time I make it, I will skip the oven step all together and just toss the shrimp in with the sauce on the stovetop. Will definitely make this again.

Coffee Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
We absolutely loved this frosting. I doubled the recipe to frost a 9x13 inch cake (Black Magic cake from this site, TO. DIE. FOR.). I started off by beating the amount of butter, cocoa and coffee called for. Then I started beating in the powdered sugar and more coffee until I got the consistency / taste I wanted. So delicious and DANGEROUS. I will make this again, but only for special occasions because the temptation to over indulge is just too great.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
There's a reason this recipe has a 5 star rating with over 1400 reviews, it's THAT good. I made it as written with the exception of substituting almond milk (soured with 2 tbs of lemon juice) for the buttermilk out of necessity due a lactose intolerance. Also, instead of using flour to prepare my cake pan, I greased it and then dusted it with cocoa powder so I didn't get any ugly white residue on my beautiful dark chocolate cake. I baked it in a 9 x 13 inch pan and it was completely done in 35 minutes. Frosted it with a coffee frosting from this site (subbing butter flavored Crisco for the butter) for a sinfully delicious, yet lactose free dessert. AMAZING.

Shrimp Po' Boys

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2013
OK, I'm not a seafood fan, but I do try to make it at least once a month for my seafood loving family. I made this recipe for dinner the other night. I cheated and used 2 boxes of frozen popcorn shrimp I found on sale. I deep fried them per the instructions on the box and then sprinkled them with Cajun seasoning. For the sauce, I didn't have any Kikkoman Ponzu lime, so I used a squirt of lime juice and some soy sauce instead. My husband and stepson LOVED this. THEY. ABSOLUTELY. LOVED. THIS. It was sooo easy using the frozen shrimp. I served it with a fresh fruit salad. The absolute easiest recipe ever. I will DEFINITELY make this for them again.
