Chicken Paprikash

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
I made this for the first time, for my Hungarian husband's birthday. It was good, but I think I should've left out the sour cream and just topped the dishes with it, as it gave a weird texture to the sauce. The dumplings came out great, as my husband and I couldn't stop snacking on them haha! It didn't taste quite right, so maybe I will add some tomatoes or tomato paste to the sauce and add full fat cream (since sour cream is a North American thing). Definitely good tasting though!

Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
One word: AMAZING! This is the delicious pound cake that I grew up with and have been craving! The only additions I made was a touch of vanilla and it was perfect! It made my house smell like sugar cookies for days after. Thank you for this amazing and simple recipe!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Great tasting recipe! I gave it four stars because, as with other members, mine fell apart and my meringue started weeping and dripping. I'm not sure what I did wrong, as I'm an experienced baker. I think it might have been that I put too much filling into the pie, not allowing the meringue to completely touch the sides of the pie. My crust turned out soggy and the pie had to be scooped out. I'll try this again, but maybe tweak something in the filling so it doesn't fall apart the way it did.

Biscotti

AMAZING! Followed this recipe to a T, except I used vanilla and almond extract because I didn't have anise. It truly is the perfect cookie!

Bananas Foster Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
The directions were very easy to follow, but I agree with another member who said their bananas turned out purple, and that it just ended up tasting like mushy banana bread. It did not look appetizing at all.

Grandma Irena's Palacsinta (Hungarian Crepes)

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
Great recipe overall. I made this for my Hungarian husband and in-laws and they said it was good. The only difference in this and what they're used to is that their crepe was lighter. I think its because this recipe used oil and theirs used shortening. I will try it again using shortening, and also a flavored cottage cheese. This was a great recipe and very rich and sweet. Thanks for posting!

Luscious Eggnog

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
Made this with a few changes (apricot brandy instead of rum, cardomom rather than nutmeg) and it came out great. I do think I should have added one more egg though for a more eggy flavor, but all in all its a great recipe! My husband loved it so I'll definitely make it again!

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
Great recipe, but not Pretzelmaker pretzels. I followed this recipe exactly and it came out great, though I found the dough quite temperamental to work with. Its gonna take a few tries to make it better. All in all a good recipe and pretzel.

Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2010
Great simple and easy recipe! Though I did make a few slight changes according to my taste and I marinated it overnight. It was so tender and moist!

Irish Cream Creme Brulee

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
I made this recipe exactly as listed.. with a little extra flavoring as the listed amount wasn't enough to make the flavor pronounced, but it was AMAZING! It wasn't too rich or too sweet. It was just perfect!

Gulab Jamun

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
I made this for the first time, using a bit more powdered milk and less fluid milk, and it turned out delicious! Just like in the restaurants! My husband and in laws were pleased and I will use this recipe again.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
I'm never making brownies from a box again. These were amazing! And I didn't even need the frosting. They were gone within 15 mins and that was a double batch!

Red Velvet Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
I tried this recipe for the first time and it was amazing! I followed the changes suggested by other reviewers and half of it was gone the very next day! I had the "cottage cheese" problem with my frosting. I realized that I just had too much butter, so i strained the icing and whipped it up and it looked perfect.
