White Texas Sheet Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2014
The family was very happy with this, it is a moist and easy cake...a happy change up from chocolate sheet cake and perfect for a casual get together. I did back off the sugar 1/2 cup and also the almond extract for the children's sake. Frosted with chocolate. The husband said "Why have we been eating other cakes than this one?". Thank you for a lovely white Texas sheet cake!!

Peanut Butter Temptations II

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2013
Delicious. Following other reviewer's suggestions, I froze the peanut butter cup candies, then unwrapped them (with a 3 year old's help!), put them back into the freezer until the cookies came out of the oven. The young'un lined the mini cupcake tins with paper liners and I plopped dough, sometimes rolled in balls, sometimes not. No difference in final product. The cookies took 9 minutes, 10 minutes was almost overdone and dry. The recipe made 42 cookies. So fast, tasty, and kid friendly for young cooks!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
Definately a kid pleasing dish. The husband and I found it to be too cheesy, not quite flavorful enough, and it over-flowed the 1 qt dish, making quite a burnt mess. It would be an easy side for a big meal, but it isn't something we'll make again.

Minnesota's Favorite Cookie

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
Husband loved them (5 stars from him), I think it is fine, just a little too sweet. Made them as written with the pecans. If I make it again, I'd use less sugar and alittle more salt. Putting the dough in the fridge did help the cookies stand a little taller.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
This was certainly a hit with kids, but next time I make it for a party, I will make it during summer time and send them outside with it. Messy. Used Devil's Food cake and creamy vanilla frosting. Easy to make, specially with little helping hands plunking in the frozen dough balls, and fun to serve.

Chef John's Italian Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
Easy and delicious. These are the family's favorite meatballs to date. Even the picky 4-yr old asked for seconds. I followed the recipe exactly minus cooking so many onions...just lazily through some dehydrated ones in the mix (sorry, Chef John!). Tasty enough to eat with mashed potatoes and gravy. We'll try it next time with marinara sauce and pasta.

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
These cookies deliver: soft, chocolatey, perfect balance of salt & sweet. Followed recipe exactly and was pleased. Husband (who considers himself Ultimate Cookie Authority) gave them a 4, said he'd rather had Choc Chip Cookies or brownies. Still, he ate more than anyone else, I noticed. Very nice recipe.

Easy Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
Super easy. Mine flattened out more than I liked, but they stayed soft. Husband said repeatedly that they were his favorite cookie EVER. Not my favorite as they seemed box-mix flavor rather than smotherly cookie richness, but they were good!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2012
I halved the recipe and a substantial amount of the batter overflowed the 7x3 pans. The taste is very nice, though more like dessert than bread. I did bake it about 10 minutes longer than the recipe called for. It is worth making again but in larger pans and with an additional banana, less sugar, and perhaps some applesauce.

Starr's Savory Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2012
Very nice tasting meatballs, and I'm not a fan of them. Herby, yes, and maybe a tad salty, depending on what you are doing with them. I followed the recipe precisely 'cept for using a few dehydrated onions rather than fresh. Remember to wear a glove on your mixing hand so you don't get "garlicked" and I thought a med size cookie scoop was perfect for our family (3 small kids). The other thing I'll do next time is to pluck the meatballs off the parchment when they come out and let them sit for a minute on a paper towel. There was plenty for dinner, left overs, and a few to freeze for a separate meal. This was easy, quick to prepare and leave in the fridge until dinner time and left overs were gone within 24 hours, so the recipe was a keeper.

David's Secret Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
I was going to give this 1 star, but my husband ate one and asked what the big problem was. I've never made cookies and thrown away raw dough, but I did on this recipe. The texture is not enjoyable (and I bake other cookie recipes with rice krispies in them), and they flattened out despite several efforts to keep them from doing so. Too bad.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
I've been making this dessert for years and my family loves it. This spring, I had tons of rhubarb, so tried it in this recipe with a few adjustments. Delicious! We like it maybe even better than before. I used 3 cups of small diced rhubarb and nearly 2 cups blueberries (frozen). I added an additional tsp of cornstarch and an additional 1/4 cup of sugar to the fruit mix. I also baked it 5 mins longer than usual. Yum, yum!

Manicotti Italian Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
5 starts for flavor given the ease of preparation. Very easy, very pleasing and perfectly splits into 2 8x8 dishes...eat one tonight, freeze the other for later. I mixed mozzerella in the casserole and covered the pepperoni on the top with thin slices of Mexican quesadilla cheese.

Quick Yeast Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
So easy, speedy, and tasty. Followed another reviewer's advice to follow recipe as written. I did let the dough-batter rise in the same kitchen aid bowl I mixed it in, and spooned it into the muffin cups as it was too moist to really handle. Even using 100% whole wheat, they were fluffy, and the whole family scarfed them down.

Very good flavor, but discolored and went soft after a month or so.
