Coffee Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
Sorry, I didn't really like this much. WAY too sweet for my liking, almost taste like a cup of coffee that is grossly sweet. If I were to make it again, I'd up the butter and lower the sugar. Also - I had problems with the consistency, which may be because of where I live. It was too dry/thick so I added more espresso and milk to make it more fluffy. This piped well after adding the liquid, but unfortunately it didn't hit the spot for me.

Chocolate Mocha Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
I didn't really taste the coffee flavor in this, or the chocolate much either. There wasn't a whole lot of flavor in general unfortunately. I did like the crumb on this - nice and fluffy. I was surprised at the amount of baking soda/powder & that there wasn't any vanilla. Also, I baked these as cupcakes - the ones that baked on the top rack turned crunchy on the top. I bake cupcakes all the time and this doesn't happen with mine normally.

French Short Pastry

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2011
Firstly, I did love how easy this pastry was to use and how quick it was to make. Unfortunately I didn't like the cooked texture of this, and even though I blind baked the pastry, the bottom of my pie was soggy. I do like that this wasn't sweet, so it worked nicely with my super sweet apple pie.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
Very cute and simple to make (besides shaping each ball......a tad time consuming). I ran out of vegetable oil, so had to use olive oil. It gave these a very strong olive taste, which I didn't like too much, but others seemed to love it. thanks!

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2011
Fantastic apple pie! I made this for my Dutch In-laws and got the approval! yum, my mother in-law told me she was keeping the left overs........no questions asked;) I had my apples sit in the sugar mixture while I was preparing my crust. By the time I was ready to fill, there was a bit of liquid at the bottom of the apples. So I drained it a bit - but not a whole lot. Also - there is A LOT of streusel, I could probably cut it in half next time. This turned out great, thanks!

German Chocolate Cupcakes ~ Cupcake Project

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2011
Decent German chocolate cake, but i've had better. Also - I made these into cupcakes, and they seem to "deflate" after baking them. They look perfect when they come out of the oven and then they sink down - don't know why.

This is pretty nice and very simple - didn't need to simmer mine after the boil, as it was already thick. Works just fine!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Filling

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2011
OH MY GOSH. This stuff is sooo good! Had around 1.5 lbs of chicken so there wasn't too much liquid left over which worked out perfect (even that tasted so good, similar to taco bells mild sauce, mmm). I used this for my chicken enchiladas. Amazing, thank you so much for this simple and delicious recipe Dianne - I will be using it often! :D

Vanilla Glaze

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2011
Fabulous recipe, great tasting! I love how this doesn't just taste like confectioner's sugar. I did have to add almost double the amount of milk stated, not sure why mine was so dry - maybe it has to do with where I live, I don't know. But anyway, I will definitely be using this recipe again - thank you Jamie!!

Coconut Jays

These are tasty, a bit hard to handle & shape, but once they're done - yum! I put a puddle of caramel in the middle, covered it in chocolate and drizzled w/some more caramel.

Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake with Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
I'm rating this based on the caramel, didn't get a chance to make the cake! This caramel was great, it has a runny sort of consistency (like a pouring caramel). I didn't have lemon juice to spare so left it out. My first batch, well I over cooked it just slightly & it ruined the flavor. I made a second batch & took the pan off the heat when it was a caramel color.......make sure you add the cream right away & whisk fast to get any lumps out. Very good, thanks so much!

Ten Minute Szechuan Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
We didn't really like this. Was going to give this 3 stars, but we changed a couple of things, so need to rate it fairly based on that. We found this was WAY too salty, but then again we didn't have low sodium soy sauce. Even still I think the soy needed to be cut in half. We also only had 'white vinega', not white wine.

General Tao Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2011
This is a really yummy recipe! I only rated it four stars as it could use a bit more flavor. I would say some cilantro and lemon juice would zing this up considerably. I garnished ours with Coriander (Cilantro)

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
This was a decent icing recipe, but I found it needed a bit more liquid. Also, the icing discolored after a few hours - i'm not too sure why?? I've never really had that happen before so i'm a bit puzzled. I used butter flavoring in stead of almond (which was nice!). probably wont be using this recipe again.

No-Bake Peanut Butter Squares

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
These were nice but not incredible. I needed to add more cereal to get these to the right consistency & in the end wished I would've added more. The texture was still almost fudge like. Tasty though, very easy & super quick to whip up!
