Bittersweet Chocolate Pound Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2005
We really love this recipe. I make a couple changes- Instead of using an unsweetened chocolate bar, I use the cocoa powder/shortening substitution that appears on the cocoa box. I also skipped the coffee altogether. It's a very dense, moist cake that gets rave reviews.

Churros

Reviewed: May 7, 2003
These tasted pretty good, and were fairly easy to make. My only problem was I used the Pampered Chef cookie press. I've discovered it was not meant for churros! They were too fat and not long enough. I would definitely make this again, but I think I'd go with something else to squirt the dough into the oil.

Nauvoo Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2008
These were perfect! Nice flavor, and very soft and chewy. If you wanted to use the recipe for a gingerbread house, or decorating the tree with the men, you'd want to cook the cookies a little longer to get them crisper.

Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
This dough was way too sticky to roll out or knead. Maybe I wasn't supposed to use all of the milk/egg mixture? It was a mess.

Gingerbread Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2002
This is soooo good!!! I made a couple of batches, so I could have some gingerbread men and a gingerbread house. It is very soft and chewy, which is good for the men, bad for the house. I cooked the house pieces a little longer though, and it worked out perfectly. THANK YOU!!

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2002
Very intense, rich flavor! Really loved it. The cake was very dense and moist. On the advice of others, I also added extra ginger.

Sue's Hot Fudge Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2013
I increased the cocoa to 1/2 c. after reading the reviews. When I made this, I handled it much the way I cook fudge- I stirred it until it came to a boil, and then I completely left it alone while it boiled. Once the 7 minutes were up, I let it cool for a bit, then used my hand mixer and mixed it for about 5 minutes on high, adding the vanilla towards the end. By that time, it was nice and thick and tasted amazing!

Arugula Persimmon Pear Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
I made this for a group of friends tonight, and it received rave reviews. I doubled the recipe, and had to use green onions because my grocery store didn't have shallots. Otherwise, I made it exactly as written. It was a huge hit.

Garlic Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2007
I used the same ingredients, however I cooked the potatoes at 450 for about 35 minutes. I sprinkled the Parmesan cheese on the potatoes at that point, then put them under the broiler until the cheese was bubbly (maybe 5 minutes?). These were very good and I'll make them again.

Creamy Peanut Butter Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
I made the recipe as stated, but added melted milk chocolate on top of the finished product. This stuff was absolutely fantastic and has become an instant family classic. I've had to make a couple batches to keep up with demand. It's so good that I can't decide whether to thank you or curse you.

Very good! I've used a tsp of orange extract instead of zest, and I've loved the results.

Strawberry Cake II

Reviewed: May 7, 2003
I loved this cake!!! It was so beautiful it tempted my parents away from their diet, and my mom doesn't even like cake! She did love this recipe though. I used fresh strawberries, and when I made the frosting, I added the strawberries one at a time so the consistancy was pretty good. I found that the frosting did hold up better when I had the cake in the fridge, so I'd recommend doing that until it's about time to serve the cake. I also sliced fresh strawberries very thinly and placed them in between the layers. Thank you very much for the recipe!!

Heaven and Hell Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2002
This cake tasted very heavy, without much flavor. It also didn't raise very well at all. The instructions mention adding salt, but the ingredients don't list salt. I won't be making it again.

Hawaiian Bread I

I LOVED this recipe!!!! I thought the coconut was too strong, but everyone else I had try the bread thought it was perfect, so I wouldn't mess with the amount.

Pizzelles II

I used real butter instead of margarine, and 2 tsp of vanilla in place of anise. They crisped up really well, and were a very nice, light flavorful cookie. Thanks!

Persimmon Bread II

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
We really enjoyed this bread! I made a few changes- for oil, I used 1/2 c. oil and 1/2 c. applsauce. Then 2 1/2 c. brown sugar instead of sugar. I also omitted the water and put in 1 1/2 c. persimmon pulp and added 1/4 tsp of ginger. I put the ground walnuts on top, and it made for a very pretty loaf. Thanks so much!

I was surprised by how much we liked this, even the kids. We did add some zucchini, yellow squash and pepperoni. Even my 6 year old wanted seconds!

Pumpkin Spice Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
These are a huge hit at our house. We use fresh pumpkin that I have baked/blended, and we also add 1 c. of semisweet chocolate chips. AMAZINGLY good, and I feel virtuous making them, as they seem pretty healthy.
