I live in a real small town in Iowa. My husband Don and I raised 4 beautiful daughters. We live on a small acreage outside of town and have lived there 34 years. We have also been blessed to have 8 grandchildren with triplets due this summer 2012. I love to garden, go on long walks on the bike trail right behind our home and we love to travel to different parts of the US. Life is good and I love living in Iowa.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and take recipes and make them my own by changing things in them. We don't alway eat everything I bake or cook because I make to much which my kids just love, so they get the rest. If I have to say one thing I love to cook is a huge breakfast when the whole family is here.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite tradition is when I make monkey bread on Christmas morning. I don't make them to much anymore as we travel during the Holidays. Now we have a couple of our girls who make them. When all the girls come home we love to have them and if possible all their in-laws come over for a huge meal, everyone brings something. Great fun.
My cooking triumphs
I can and freeze a lot in the summer and fall months. It is really rewarding when you can take something out of the freezer or off the shelf to use in a recipe that you put up yourself. I love giving some of my canned goods to family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
I've been married for 45 1/2 years and have to admit that not all my meals were the best to eat when I was younger and started cooking, but my husband hung right in there and encourage me more and more. Now he says that I'm even a better cook than his Mom. Makes me feel good since his Mom was a great cook.
