Chinese Green Bean Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
My husband loved this! My daughter loves chinese green beans but these wasn't it. I also picked up the wrong black bean sauce and wanted the ones with chunky beans in them. I don't think the flavors will change but I just like it for texture and looks.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2012
It's okay. The last lentil and rice recipe I made were more flavorful. It had garlic, cumin, cinnamon, etc. I chose to try this recipe because it uses white rice and the directions are different. The submitter should've listed how much water to use. I used 1 cup lentils (2 cup water) and 1 cup rice (1 1/2 cup water).

Soft Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2012
July 19, 2012: I love the buttery and chocolatey taste! Baked it for 9 minutes and it had a nice chew to it which we liked. I topped a few cookies with chocolate covered sunflower seeds to them and thought it gave it a nice colorful and festive touch. Update: I tasted it again at night and it totally lost it's flavor...???...usually some cookies are best aged hmmm. But it could've been someone who left the container open.

Northwest Steakhouse Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
These were delicious! My grill had no gas so I pan fried instead then tranfered it on a plate and covered w/ foil for 8-10 minutes. My daughter thought it was teensy bit salty so maybe cut it down a bit. I had no problems with it.

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

It was alright. I've had better stir fry sauces. I think this needs to be marinated for a while.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
Why did I wait so long to make these....yumm! Fun and easy to make. Made as is except used vanilla extract instead of almond. To make the indents, I went through my kitchen drawers and found one of those infant/toddlers spoon medicine measuring device (spoon top w/ round bottom). Although, I think I went a little deep on the indents because while the cookies were baking, it stretched and the jams didn't quite fill in the hole. Or maybe I didn't fill enough or stick with the chapstick cap idea. I wanted to drizzle icing on them but the hungry people couldn't wait to taste.

Melon Chiller

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
Yummy! I grew up drinking this but my mom would use those filipino melon scraper/juicer to make long strings, which, also enhaced the melon flavor. I don't have them, so I used a melon zester instead. The difference is the thickness. This may be a weird drink to those that haven't seen such thing before like my hubs lol, but it is resfreshing. If doing it this way, use a fork to take out the cantaloupe strings to eat..

Teena's Spicy Pesto Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
Wow! Simple and fabulous! I had used andouille sausages that needed to be used, also, I didn't have chili paste, but did use the closest thing which was chili garlic sauce, and poured a bit of cream just to smooth out everything. We also made fresh linguine pasta (AR's basic pasta), so we felt it needed a touch of olive oil before serving. Served this with homemade italian bread (AR)with herbed oil/balsamic dip. Oh yeah, I hate cilantro so I omitted that.

Zucchini Stew by Bob

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2012
These were okay. It could use some seasonings and garlic to it and I think I would've like it better with mild italian sausages. I didn't want to make this stew spicy (kid) so I seeded the anaheims.

Whole Rice and Lentils (Majadara)

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2012
Needed a side dish to pair with our middle-eastern grilled chicken kebabs and wanted to use what we had on hand and found this. I really loved it but for my family,it was so-so because they're not much of a brown rice lover. Made little changes such as using tri-colored lentils (green, brown, & yellow) and chicken broth instead of water.

Authentic Mexican Corn Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Made as is. The taste is very good but I'm going to be honest and say that the texture was so dense and so dry. Some folks might like it that way but i want it moist as stated. I'm a little bummed out because no one ate this at all. I wonder if the flour/cornmeal measurements is a typo or something. I'm going to play around with this recipe and give an update.

Jalapeno Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Seriously hot even when seeding some jalapenos. I will let my husband be the judge of that since our spice level differ but for sure, I will make some more when we have a get together to test out who's the biggest wimp lol. I wanted to charr my jalapeno's/tomatoes on the grill but it wasn't working, so I pan roasted it intsead and covered it. Also, used kosher salt and doubled the garlic.

Pecan Crackers

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
Highly addictive! It taste like a softer version of almond roca kind of. I used a mix of pecan and walnuts (didn't measure), 9x13 pan using almost a whole sleeve of graham crackers, 3/4 cup of all butter, brown sugar, and a dash of vanilla.

Thai Stuffed Tofu

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2012
Delicious! I love tofu! It was very fun to make this and very unique, but the scooping out part was time consuming. I made a couple of adjustments but nothing major like using button mushrooms instead of shiitake (not a fan) and didn't want to get cabbage just for a small amount, so I shredded carrots. The carrots gave it some color to the filling. Only advice to give is to make sure to pack the fillings, otherwise, it will fall apart while frying. I liked dipping it with sweet chili sauce (Mae Ploy).Thank you, Kaleas, for your creative recipe!

Chinese Mabo Tofu

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
Very good and easy. Made this vegetarain only. The soy sauce masked all the other delicious ingredients. It was salty, so I added rice vinegar to it and since I only had non-spicy black bean sauce, I also added chili garlic sauce. I omitted the sesame oil because we don't like them in certain dishes and its very overwelming, but thats just us.

Tantalizing Turkey and Blue Cheese Meatballs

Wasn't too thrilled with these. The texture was like meatloaf which my hubs doesn't care for but at least it wasn't dry. It also need some salt.
