Pride Of Iowa Cookies

Reviewed: May 2, 2013
Really bland and just unappealing dough and fat without much flavor. My children adore cookies but they left these alone. Sorry- I made them with so much enthusiasm that it was truly a disappointment. Too bad.

Salt and Vinegar Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2013
Far superior for grilling than as oven baked chicken. I've had the best results with both versions of this marinade by reducing the oil, increasing the spices, and, if you must bake it, going at a strong 400-425 heat for the chicken to really absorb the flavors and get some crisping. Just watch the timing/ color, accordingly. Why do people complain about ingredient proportions so much- just adjust the spices, seasonings, etc. to your individual tastes and use recipes with flexibility, not as hard and fast dictates! ( Fresh garlic, Greek olives, mixed vinegars, more pepper, olive oil etc.- get the basic idea and play with it.....

Peanut Butter Stuffed Jalapenos

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
I did not care for this recipe. There are much better things to do with both ingredients. I was hoping for an intriguing taste and got- well, peanut butter and jalapeno peppers, neither of which complement one another.

Easy Breakfast Sausage Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2012
Delicious sounding recipe but the cholesterol/ fat content is WAY more than we are willing to risk for a tasty breakfast burger. There must be a way to reduce the negative elements and acccentuate the positive elements! Sounds yummy, though!

Roasted Tomatoes with Garlic

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
Thanks for this recipe! I've also sauteed grape tomatoes with garlic (lots!) in a skillet with just enough oil to coat the surface and seasonings to taste. Wonderfully earthy late summer flavor. Particularly delish with simple grilled eggplant, fresh basil leaves and a teeny bit of good mozzarella, maybe all piled on the fresh bread -now you're savoring the Bari/Puglia region of Italy! Pour some wine and enjoy.

A Pad Thai Worth Making

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
Good flavor, but very expensive considering the amount and prices of the multiple condiments. More cost effective in a restaurant, but a successful base recipe.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
Wonderful tasty, economical dish! Great for any time of the year. However, the fat content puzzles me. I am surprised at 22 grams per serving for lentils rice and a moderate amount of oil to fry the onions in. Anybody else have a comment on this aspect, I 'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for the input.

Italian Chicken and Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
Thank you for a wonderful, traditional "jersey" recipe variation! The flavors are outstanding, and the dish certainly lends itself to the addition of more Mediterranean veggies very easily. The red pepper spices here give so much more than mere heat- they literally warm the olive, rosemary and tomato flavors of the dish to add both depth and to bring up the sunny character of true Italian coastal village food. Superb recipe, Kristin- Nana must be very proud of you!
