Deb's Scallops Florentine

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2009
This recipe needs to be edited. First, you need 1/2 cup parmesan, total. I found this recipe to have too much mozzarella and bread crumbs, I would halve those next time. Also, be careful when you make the cream sauce as it thickens alot sooner than the recipe calls for. Maybe it was because I was using someone else's stove. The sauce should only be slightly thick. Creamy is a better word. Otherwise, the flavor was delish. Oh, and it has to bake for 25-30 mins. as stated at the top of the recipe, not 15 as stated in the actual recipe. Next time I will make these adjustments and also maybe saute the spinach first with some fresh minced garlic.

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with Garlic Mayo

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
This is not your traditional "Philly" cheesesteak. And all the changes everyone is making takes it even further away from a real Philly cheesesteak. That's ok. If you can't get the real thing it's ok to try and duplicate. Number one rule is you must have a superior hoagie roll or you've lost half of the battle. Number 2, use top round chipped steak. The rest is up to you, and cheese whiz is a rule in Philly but, I don't care for it. And, if you're ever in Philly, best place to go for anykinda sandwich is Tony Luke's..

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
I have been making this cake for about 25 yrs..You can't find a better tasting chocolate cake. It is so moist it's almost impossible to over bake. My only tip is to just dump everything into your bowl in the recipe order and beat until smooth (it won't take long). Batter will be thin as stated. If you are a true chocoholic like me, frost with chocolate frosting (I use the chocolate frosting recipe on the Hershey's cocoa can). If not, use a vanilla or buttercream frosting. A touch of coffee added to any frosting will really bring out the coffee flavor but, won't overpower the overall taste. I love this recipe and I am sure you will too.

Penne with Asparagus and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
I really liked this recipe. I try to have a meatless meal at least once a week and this was perfect. Only change I would make is to use half butter half olive oil. Don't get me wrong, I love my olive oil but, when eating the leftovers they were a little bland. I think adding the butter would help. I will make this recipe again.

Mushroom-Stuffed Chicken Breasts in a Balsamic Pan Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
I am always looking for something new to cook and this one was great. The balsamic and honey tasted so much better than I imagined. Only change would be to maybe use feta cheese or a milder cheese. I do not care for goat cheese. That's all I could taste in the stuffing. And don't bother using a food processor, I minced my mushrooms myself and they were perfect. This recipe was easy to make. I even ate the leftover breast and I never eat left over chicken.

Rugelach with Cream Cheese Filling

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
I've never made Rugelach before. This recipe was easy but, time consuming. The dough was a dream to work with since I am not very good w/cookie dough and rolling out. In fact, I don't really enjoy making cookies but, this recipe was fun. Only gave it 4 **** because I was missing a buttery taste. Next time I will use butter or a 50/50 mix of butter and margarine. Also, my cookies do not look like the picture. Mine were longer since it said to roll the dough to a 10-12" circle. None the less, they are very good.

Oatmeal Yeast Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
I was so excited to try this recipe because it contained oatmeal and honey. One person commented that you could really taste the honey. Honestly, all I could taste was yeast. I'm not new to making bread. Loaves had a wonderful texture, the house smelled wonderful while they baked. Just nothing like I expected. Kathy, if I did something wrong let me know. I followed your recipe to the T and can't imagine why the yeast flavor overpowered the loaf. Thank you for posting your recipe.

Split Pea Soup Atu

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
I love this recipe. I hadn't made split pea soup before because no one would eat it except me. When I found out my new boyfriend loves it, I decided to make some. Easy and SO yummy. It was a little runny for my liking so I added some instant mashed potatoes to thicken it up. Next time I will just add more potatoes. Flavor was MMMM good. Served with a salad and made fresh bread that day. Great Winter meal. Thanks William.

Jeanne's Chocolate Kiss Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
Got PMS? Or are you just a chocoholic? Either way this cookie is your fix. You'll probably satisfy your cravings just by making them (I ate alot of the batter). I ran out of kisses (again couldn't help myself but eat them). Can you tell I am a chocoholic? There really IS such a thing. One hint, let the kisses cool completely before eating. When you eat them warm they are similar in taste to a warm brownie. MMMMM GOOD! :-D

Chicago-Style Franks and Macaroni

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
This recipe sounded good in theory but, had not much flavor, only hot dog. I know a Chicago hot dog does not have cheese but, cheese would have made this better tasting. I will not even try to play with this recipe, just not worth the time or money.

Lasagna Alfredo Roll Ups

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2010
This recipe is restaurant worthy. I made it exactly as written except I realized my Alfredo jar was only 15 oz..So, I added an 8 oz. can of regular tomato sauce which gave me a blush sauce. I also used fresh mozzarella only because it is my preference. I use my boyfriend as my guinea pig and he has to rate my cooking using the 5 star rule. This one got 5+ and we both said if we had ordered this meal out, we would have been satisfied to have paid for it. Also, it says you need 8 lasagna noodles and for once, that's exactly how many you need. I cooked 2 extra in case I needed them or if any broke while cooking. This recipe is fun. You can change the sauce and just use a plain tomato, homemade or jar (my fav. jar is Newman's Own), regular Alredo which comes in so many flavors (I used mushroom) or you can add the tomato sauce and make a blush (pink) sauce. This one is absolutely a keeper!
