About this Cook
I have been cooking since I was about 10 yrs old. I started out baking, and then got a subscription to Bon Appetit magazine. That changed everything, and I was off and running.
My favorite things to cook
I look for any recipe that has a weird ingredient in it.Right away I'm curious to know what it tastes like. I have found some wonderful recipes this way.I say to myself it has to be good, it's in a cookbook!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is Scotish, and makes killer shortbread. My dad is German, and have made German dishes for him that remind him of his childhood in Berlin
My cooking triumphs
Anything that comes out better than I expected is a triumph in my eyes.
My cooking tragedies
My dad was in the hospital so I decided to make him a loaf of cinnamon bread from a bread machine. I had never made bread before. The aroma wafting from that machine was incredible. As the timer went off, I lifted the lid, and noticed the cup of flour sitting on the counter.Inside, was total mush....I still haven't made another loaf of bread.

Mom's Stovetop Pork Ribs
Thank you so much for your recipe. I used fresh herbs, Bragg's (less sodium) soy sauce and followed the directions. I also used boneless pork ribs. The best thing about this recipe is the technique. No wonder the flavor is so intense and the pork so tender. It just works.... That sear I got on the pork at the very end? Put this dish right over the top. W.O.W.

Pesto Chicken Penne Casserole
This was easy to prepare, and I followed the recipe as stated except only used 7 oz of pesto. I actually think this tastes better the second day, as it gives the ingredients time to marry. Thanks for sharing~

Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs
I used boneless ribs and followed the recipe. Very good flavor, however I found the sauce a little on the sweet side, so I will either reduce sugar, or increase vinegar next time. The ribs were also completely done in 5 hours. Very good recipe, thanks~
