This one is definitely a keeper, at least as far as my mad for Tex-Mex food husband is concerned. I made it exactly as described except that for "chili beans" I subbed pinto beans. Also, it wasn't specified in the recipe, but I did drain the beans as I find the pot likker from black beans particularly can be rather unwholesome in appearance. "Beer" is rather a broad category, I used our favorite American style lager (Yuengling Traditional) which is similar in taste and appearance to some Mexican beers.
