I teach Family and Consumer Science, formerly known as Home Economics. I enjoy reading cookbooks, especially those that are old. I like regional cooking across the US.
My favorite things to cook
depend on my mood and time. When I am working full time, I like quick and easy recipes that have fresh ingredients. I like going into my garden, selecting fresh vegetables or herbs and using them in my recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter family recipes.
My cooking triumphs
I finally mastered making a pie crust! I also love to make up recipes using my fresh garden vegetables and herbs.
My cooking tragedies
is a cooked chocolate frosting in my college cooking class. The frosting was cooked at too high of a temperature...the frosting stuck to the spatula and would not spread! After that I had a clear understanding of the importance of taking your time and using a thermometer.
