Garlic Cheese Flatbread

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
Very good! I started the dough in my bread machine, and while it came together perfectly, once it was removed, it was extremely sticky and difficult to work with. I had to knead in a TON more flour to be able to work with it. While I was kneading in the flour, I also added some minced garlic and italian seasoning to the dough. Other than that, I followed the recipe. These were very good! I cut them into strips to serve like breadsticks and had marinara for dipping. We'll have these again for sure!!

Super Bowl Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2007
EXCELLENT! I did not make the chowder, so I can't comment on that. I put chili in the bread bowls and it was fantastic! I followed the recipe exactly and they came out wonderfully! The outsides were slightly crisp and the insides were soft and chewy. They were easy to make and I can't wait to try them with other kinds of soup!

Fast and Flavorful Eggs

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2007
I like to try different recipes and this one certainly fit the bill, however, it won't be made again. It is just foul tasting. The eggs and the soup make a BAD combination. Maybe if you used a cheddar cheese soup instead of a cream of chicken???? I admire the creativity, but will definitely delete this one from my recipe box.

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2007
This was wonderful and I will be making it all the time! I made the dough in my bread machine and it came together perfectly--I am far too lazy to make bread by hand!! I followed the recipe with the exception of leaving out the sesame seeds. The texture is perfect, crunchy on the outside, with a soft and tender inside. It goes great with everything, we have eaten it with pasta, I have made po'boys with it, it's even good warm with butter on it for a snack! Very versatile bread that will become part of my permanent rotation!

Remoulade Sauce a la New Orleans

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2007
I made a few changes, but we really enjoyed this sauce. I served it as a spread for shrimp po'boys and it was perfect! I was out of chili sauce, so I used ketchup that I spiced up a bit with garlic powder and minced onion. I also left the mustard out all together. I used only a splash of olive oil, rather than the full amount called for and I left out the olives and the capers. Perfect! I think it would be good for crab cakes and shrimp cocktail as well and I will definitely make this again!

Jeff's Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
Top notch! I did have to make a few changes though. For one, I left out the sausage, and just used additional burger. I used hot taco sauce in place of the chili sauce and left out the green pepper. I also added in a splash of garlic and onion tomato sauce and some garlic powder. I served them on toasted buns with a slice of cheddar on top. We really liked them and I will make this again.

Tiramisu Toffee Dessert

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2007
To the previous reviewer...step 2 are your direction. Your confusion is likely that the last two sentences of the 2nd step are the same as the 1st two sentences of the third step. Combine all ingredients in step 2, spread them on the cake, then add the candy on top of that. Good luck.

Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
FANTASTIC! These are wonderful, they make the best belgian waffles we have ever had! I followed the recipe exactly and I got nine waffles in my Waring Pro Waffle Maker. According the the instructions with the waffle maker, you can freeze the leftover waffles, and that is what I did. They say to fold them into wax paper, then place them in a plastic freezer bag. Then you reheat them in the toaster oven and they were just as good when re-heated, although slightly more crispy. We will definitely have these again!

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2007
Hands down the best homemade bread I have ever made! This recipe is excellent! I didn't change a single thing about it and we loved it! I baked the bread, then cut it up in chunks and we used it for cheese fondue...amazing! Thanks for a fantastic recipe that I will make over and over!!

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2007
These are much better if you boil the garlic with the potatoes rather than adding it in later.

Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2007
Husband did not like this at all, but my son and I did, so it gets four stars. When checking it in the bread machine, it was not coming together at all, so rather than the 1-2 additional tablespoons of water the recipe called for, it took 4. It rose beautifully and has a nice texture. My only complaint would be the glaze...I didn't like the addition of the vanilla and will leave it out the next time.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2007
I gave this 4 stars because my husband loved it, however my son and I were not really thrilled with it. It is nothing like pizza shop crust, which is what I was looking for. I did add some spice the the dough, per other reviewers {garlic powder, basil, oregano, and parmesan cheese} and mixed the dough in my bread machine. It came out extremely sticky and I had to add more flour at that point and knead it. It just didn't have much taste to it and got very crispy, although the crispiness might have been my pan. Since hubby loved it, I will likely try it again, but I will also continue searching for other recipes.

Pennsylvania Coal Region Barbecue

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2007
This is authentic Pennsylvania Coal Region BBQ, I must agree! I grew up on a very similar recipe. For the reviewer who said her husband never heard of it..Pittsburgh is not the coal region. That would explain why he never heard of it. It's a local favorite and is always served at our family reunions. Only difference is that I never heard of it being made with brown sugar..we always use regular granulated sugar.

Dianne's Crab

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2007
Used real crab as opposed to imitation and completely omitted the romano. Instead, after it cooked, I smothered the top with mozzarella and put it under the broiler to melt the cheese. Pretty good appetizer.

Noodles Alfredo

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
The recipe as is deserves about 3.5 stars, it is a bit bland. However, I made some changes that made it excellent! We like extra sauce, so this is what I did. I doubled the heavy cream but kept the butter amount the same. I then added in a few tablespoons of cream cheese. I used 3/4 cup of grated Romano cheese and a large handful of shredded mozzarella to make it creamier. I also added in 2 teaspoons of garlic powder for some additional flavor. I then let that sit on the warmer on my stove and sauteed some chicken in garlic and butter. I served the sauce over fettucine noodles and put the chicken on top of it. Garlic bread on the side completed a fantastic meal!!

Lunch-Box "Handwiches"

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2007
Very tasty, a great alternative to a ham and cheese sandwich! I used deli ham and just chopped it into small squares. I also used sliced provolone and swiss, chopped into small squares rather than shredded, and mixed the two cheeses with the ham in the sandwiches. They took 14 minutes in the oven and they were just perfect! The whole family loved these and I will make them again!

Chicken Bouillon Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2007
Not much taste here. This recipe needs to be tinkered with. For starters, more bouillon is needed. I would also add some oregano, maybe a bit of garlic powder and some vegetables. Not good as is, but could be with some work.

Delicious Baked Chicken Kiev

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2007
Not bad, but a lot of work for a weeknight meal. It requires a lot of diligence with the toothpicks to keep the butter in, and still you can't prevent some of it leaking out. I took the advice of other reviewers and used egg and milk to help with the leakage and it was fairly well contained, but could not prevent it all. This didn't really taste like Chicken Kiev to us, but had a nice flavor anyway. I did not use cornflake crumbs, but rather used Garlic and Herb bread crumbs. It is a nice recipe, but I probably won't be making it again any time soon.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
The texture was great, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, but I found the flavor to be a bit lacking. This recipe definitely needs to be tinkered with a little bit for more flavor. We had them the first night as rolls with spaghetti and meatballs and they were OK. We had the leftovers the next night with French Dip Sandwiches and once the bread soaked up the flavor from the au jus, they were fabulous! Also, mine were done in only 14 minutes, so keep an eye on them! Also, how in the world do you make them look nice?? I will definitely give this another try.
